Where “Spider Monkey” Came From
Some of you already know this, but Rob was the one that picked one of the most famous lines from Twilight- “You better hold on tight, spidermonkey.” Catherine Hardwicke presented Rob with 5 options, and he picked that one! MTV has an article about this.
At this point during our interview, Hardwicke went over to her computer and printed out a sheet from her personal archives. Titled “Sc. 86 pt. DIALOGUE ALTERNATIVES,” the sheet lists the eight other options that Hardwicke wrote that evening.
“I gave it to Rob, the whole list,” she explained. “And I said, ‘Rob, which one do you want to say?’ And he goes, ‘I want to say the spider-monkey one.’ ”
Hardwicke’s unused lines range from simplistic to silly, over-the-top to right on target. Now, we give you a peek at some of the alternative lines that Pattinson did not select:
Option 1:
Edward: You’re not scared of heights, are you?
Bella: Not that I know of …Option 2:
Edward: Hold on tight …
Bella: Don’t worry …Option 3:
Edward: Wrap your legs around me like a spider monkey.
Bella: Done.Option 4:
Edward: Got a good grip? Don’t let go.

ya but that wasnt the spidermonkey line exactly though cause he didnt say anything like that he said, “you better hold on tight spider monkey” not, “wrap you legs around me like a spider monkey” and she laughed she didnt say,”done” and all the disicions were kinda lame. but please dont get me wrong i like the “you not afraid of hights are you?” one but the one were she is like “not a chance buddy” is really stupid though dont you guys think?

haha those are all incredibly cheesy! i kind of cringed when Rob said “hold on tight spidermonkey” for its corniness but i have to say that he picked the best one. So good job, Rob! it’s very cute.

Yeah, I thought it was what team switzerland said with the whole “You better hold on tight spider monkey”. The finished product was a combination of options two and three, I think. I liked the heights one as well but I think what Rob chose was awesome. I love that line. =)

i’m glad catherine is gone too, she kind of butchered Twilight a little bit. even the littlest things she could have gotten right according to the book she decided to change for some reason no one knows why… chris weitz is going to do an amazing job with New Moon

oh this is a relief i thought i was the only one who thought cathrine was crazy!! i mean really she had them makeout the first hour they knew each other!! and i would be a better director for twilight she had everything out of order and the kiss was in a diffrent spot and the sparkley edward was too so chris weitz you are awsome!! better then Cathrine was and im glad shes gone!!

Yeah…I thought ‘You better hold on tight spidermoney’ was bad. I’ve gotten to where I like it…but the other options…terrible! ‘Prepare for liftoff’?! That is so corny and not Edward. And the others, Bella wouldn’t say those things and it would have been really awkward. I’m glad Rob had some sense…Catherine may have ruined the movie for me with one of those lines.

well remember how in the deleted scene they had bella say something about chinchilla droppings in a rain catcher? twilight had a lot of pretty strange lines in it. lol! the first one is the best. catherine was crazy. chris is better!! duh. spider monkey.. i don’t like it that much but it’s kinda cute. i mean it makes the movie memorable, which is what i like.

No offense to people that like Catherine, but she is so reatarded. She is such a crackhead. She totaly fu*ked up Twilight. I can tell already that Chirs is doing a better job. Im so glad they got rid of her as*. I dont want to hear any of this” oh she couldnt work with their schedule”…such b.s. Soooo glad she gone. She embarrased us fans. I am always defending the movie against people making fun of it(all of my guy friends and my hubby). They already saw the new trailer and said it looks WAY better.

Wow….um yeah….I really don’t like any of those. None of them really sound like Edward or Bella would ever say them. “buddy”? Definitely would never expect that to come out of Bella’s mouth. Honestly, I am also glad that Catherine is gone.

If Rob had chose option three, I think I would havce either;
1. Burst out laughing in the middle of the cinema, or
2. Looked around the cinema, and asked my friend ‘Did he seriously just say thaa? Are you thinking whaa im thinking?’

hey and in the birthday scene( in the New moon movie) i would have, instead of having everyone watch edward push bella and Jazz away from each other, i would have had emmett, carlisle and edward infront of Jazz and like backing him away and then Alice, Esme and Rose infront of bella so then if Jasper gets away she is protected if Jasper gets passed the guys. then we would think they care for bella like edward and would protect her for him. what do youu think of that?
