Harry Potter & Twilight: Rival Teen Franchises
The Wall Street Journal has an article about the Harry Potter and Twilight franchises and how they target teens as their main audience. (Even though we know that there are many adults who are also huge fans!)
Hollywood marketing executives say that these days the “Twilight” franchise has influenced almost every studio marketing campaign that targets teenage girls. Some posters for the upcoming “Potter” film echo “Twilight”’s emphasis on romance. One features Harry and his crush, Ginny, gazing longingly into each others’ eyes, in a pose reminiscent of “Twilight”’s now-iconic image of its star-crossed lovers, Bella and Edward. Another shows Harry’s friend Ron with his girlfriend Lavender, while a jealous Hermione scowls in the background.
Warner Bros. and the team behind “Potter” say they didn’t take the “Twilight” franchise into account when designing their marketing materials for “The Half-Blood Prince.” Instead, they crafted a campaign aimed to resonate with previous “Potter” films, the executives and filmmakers say, dismissing the notion that there is a rivalry between the franchises among fans.
Just for the record, us at HGE are also huge fans of Potter. Eagerly awaiting the release of HBP! xD

I love Harry Potter and Twilight. HP was my first book-love, and now Twilight is my book-love. I wonder how it even is a rival thing. Both are awesome and a lot of Twilight fans love HP too. Can’t wait to see HBP! And then, months later, New Moon! XD

ive always hated how the media makes harry potter and twilight out to be ‘rivals’.
what? they think people cant love both? because so many twilight fans love harry potter. for me..i happen to like harry potter more. it will always be #1 to me. but twilight is a close second. i cant wait for the sixth hp movie:]

I’m getting my tickets for HBP tonight
Yay. I mean, I love Harry Potter. I was seriously obsessed with it before I read Twilight.
But then I read Twilight, lol.
If I HAD to choose, I’d say Twilight — it’s what I’m into now, and I love the love story.
But Harry Potter is amazing as well, don’t get me wrong. The plot is great.
So, I guess it comes down to this: With Harry Potter, the plot is more complex. With Twilight, the characters are much more well developed.
But there’s certainly room in my heart for both

I’ve really never seen much rivalry between the two fandoms. In my experience, a lot of Twilight fans are also Harry Potter fans. I’ve loved HP for years, and I discovered Twilight just after the last HP book came out, so I loved having a new series to be excited about. No rivalry here, only love for all

I am sick of the media comparing Harry Potter and Twilight. They are 2 completely different book series! I have to be honest though and say that Twilight is not better than Harry Potter. I mean don’t get me wrong I love the Twilight series. I just love Harry Potter more.

Wow that’s a horrible picture but yeah I fell in love with HP first and then a also found twilight but they are all seriously different from one another… I think both have amazing fan followings but the potter world is something that has been made from the ground up so it has a bit more interesting and involving…still twilight is the king of romance…

I never understand why they always do that. Harry Potter vs. Twilight. Helloooo both totally diffrent. Instead the competition should be between The Vampire Diaries and Twilight. Personally I think Vampire Diaries is WAAAYYY WAAAAYYYY BETTER. But Twilight was my first love.

HP used to be my slight obsession, and my poster from The Order of the Phoenix that was hanging on my wall has been replaced by much more attractive Twilight posters, E and B, E and B, and the Cast.

Seriously just about everyone that has read them has fallin in love with the series.!
To sum it all up into a simple little sentence it’s about a girl named Elena that is in a love Triangle between two vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon Salvatore. OOOMMGGG there is soo much to the story though. It has a beautiful PASSIONATE love story full of action, thrill and suspense. If you love twilight you for sure love this one.!
It’s going to be a Tv show on the CW this fall so YEAAAHHH!!

For me, HP is obviously better than Twilight. I still love Twilight tho, it was my 1st vamp story. There’s no reason why people should be comparing them. And no, there isn’t that much rivalry between the fandoms, but I’ve seen people who hate Twilight mentioning that HP is better and stuff, but they’re not really fans, they’re just people saying that to annoy the Twihards… o_o (at least it seems like that..XD)

I grew up with HP so I’ve been in love with the films and the books for a long time. Twilight also rocks but HP will always be the best.
