Melissa Rosenberg On New Moon & Eclipse

ET Online has an interview with Melissa Rosenberg where she talks about writing New Moon and Eclipse. She also comments on the Rachelle controversy.

ET: What can you tell us about ‘New Moon’ and ‘Eclipse’?

Melissa Rosenberg: It becomes bigger in scope. The first film was really a small romance in a way. There was the battle with James (Cam Gigandet) at the end. That was as big as it got. With ‘New Moon,’ we have the werewolf clan, we have the Vulturi — and in ‘Eclipse,’ there is an epic battle, so with every book, with every episode of the movie, it gets grander in scope, which is fun to write. What was great about that, too, is with the small story and the characters … to be able to grow with it and track it through, it has really been a great pleasure.

ET: What do you think of the recasting of Rachelle Lefevre?

Melissa Rosenberg: I love Rachelle, but Bryce Dallas Howard? It was a shame, but I think Rachelle will go on to do brilliant things. I just love her. I am sure Bryce will be great.

  1. Des Says:

Why would Bryce be better than Rachelle? Who would seriously believe that

  2. KJ Says:

I still don’t like Bryce. She sickens me. But I love Melissa Rosenberg. She is awesome.

  3. Courts Says:

It’s funny that everyone thinks BDH is such a huge name, but she hasn’t done much. If you look at Rachelle’s list of what she’s done vs BDH’s, Rachelle’s is much more comprehensive.

  4. Aliceismyfave Says:

Haha. Melissa doesn’t like Bryce either….well it doesn’t seem like it…

  5. Des Says:

I agree with Courts but her dad is a HUGE director

  6. Kisha Says:

What I don’t get is how people can say they hate Bryce as Victoria before they’ve even seen what she can do.
Seriously, I simply don’t understand this extreme closed-mindedness.
Yes, we all love Rachelle, she was one of the greatest, sweetest actresses of the cast, and she is extremely talented.
But can’t we move on? Can’t we think, “I’m going to miss Rachelle, but let’s see if this Bryce Dallas Howard can impress us.”
Who knows, maybe she will. :)

  7. mars Says:

im really surprised no one has mentioned that they spelled volturi wrong..

  8. M.Heart Says:

Everyone just needs to drop the whole Rachelle thing already. It’s irritating. Yes, she did Victoria justice. And she also failed to keep her end of the deal with Summit and had to pay the consequences. That’s just how it is. Bryce is a beautiful and talented girl. I loved her in Spidey 3, her character was pivotal to Peter and Mary Jane’s romance and she nailed it. And hello? Lady in the Water? Amazing. So rather than most of us (cause I certainly dont) defending someone who was irresponsible….we should be supporting someone who quickly took the role in her arms to make the best she could of it. I have faith in her, she hasnt disappointed me.

As for Melissa, she seems so freakin’ boring. As long as she nailed the proposal and later Fire & Ice, I’ll manage. Something about her just bothers me though.

  9. cristina Says:

Yeah she seems a little arrogant. You are so right about us moving on! Its time!

  10. Nicola Says:

Ok, Perhaps i’m the only one but i really really HATE Melissa Rosenberg - It astounds me that directors and cast members get reshuffled, and yet the woman responsible for turning an amazing book into an awkward mediocre script has remained signed on for the next two movies! She butchered Twilight - In my eyes she’s the biggest reason why my favourite book fell almost totally flat on screen and I can’t believe the fans and Summit are letting her continue to tear apart Stephenie Meyer’s work. The actors can give the performance of their lives, but if they’re working with a poor script, the movie’s still gonna be pants…

  11. Kelseyy Says:

I agree Nicola, for me I blame Melissa Rosenberg! She wrote the script, its becuase of her that I was soo disappointed in the Twilight Movie. Its not the actors, and how they portrayed their characters, its what was said it the movie..the script! I’ve said it before, when watching Twilight I just wanted to mute it, everyones looks were perfect but I just couldn’t take how much they were butchering the book and everything Stephenie wrote :/ I blame Hardwike for the mistakes with the first movie too.

Lets hope Melissa wrote a better script for NM! and if not I have faith that Chris Weitz has found a way to still make it epic, and give justice to the book.

  12. Katt Says:

Yeahh, im glad im not the only one, because theres something about Melissa Rosenberg that just bothers me, she seems quite up herself….
I dont mean to offend anyone its just my opinion….

  13. Hope Says:

I just want to take a moment for everyone he keeps saying “Rachelle didn’t keep her end of the deal” Let me take you guys back in time, when Twilight was being filmed.Cam Gigandet would be filming some else the same time, and Summit worked around him and his scheduale.Did they do that with Rachelle? No.They “let her go”and replaced her.

  14. Hope Says:

and Kelseyy,Catherine did an amazing job.She worked with what she had.Which was a script that she had no control over. She did what the script said. She’s an amazing director and put a lot of time and hard work into making the film what it was.

  15. Christina Says:

    Someone kill that bitch.

  16. M.Heart Says:

HOPE, while you’re on your trip back in time, do some research. Yes, Cam did two films at the same time BUT his time on set with Summit was different than it would be for the other movie AND when it did clash, they were made aware of it WITH ENOUGH TIME TO ALTER HIS SCHEDULE. In this case, Rachelle knew that her time on set AND REHEARSAL was mandatory because the SET WAS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR THOSE 10 DAYS….And she went and booked another movie anyways. Don’t give credit to the irresponsible and procrastinating.

  17. Hope Says:

Rachelle isn’t needed on set 7 days a week for the complete time they’ll be filming. They had enough time to alter the scheduale.Rachelle wouldn’t have taken the other job if she knew it was only available for those 10 days. She was too committed to the project. It’s not fair that everyne bashes her for expanding her carreer like every other actor in the saga.

  18. M.Heart Says:

I could care less if she was expanding, she has the right to do that. She doesnt have the right however to betray something she had claimed to be passionate about. Point is, if you can’t show up, don’t expect to be kept around. Obviously she didnt give enough time to both studios to figure it out or it wouldnt of happened. It’s not like Summit hated her or something or they would of replaced her before NM began production. I’m just saying the fanbase needs to get over it already…there are more important things going on in the Twilight world.

  19. abbyM Says:

    it’s spelled Schedule.
