Eclipse Set Pics: Newborns
Vancity Allie has awesome pics from the Eclipse set- we get a look at some newborn vamps! They are all emerging from underwater in the scene. There’s also a shot of Xavier Samuel (aka Riley).
Wow. The newborns look incredibly creepy. o_0
I had a chance to see a new set being filmed for Eclipse… the scene where the newborns arrive in Forks. It’s a picturesque scene, with mountains and water framing the background of the shot, and a sparse unoccupied beach for the newborns to arrive on… then they disappear into the forest. The vampire newborns looked absolutely chilling, and their rugged military-like outfits along with steely, determined glares just added to the mood. Filmed early in the morning, this scene was designed to look as if it had been shot at night, possibly just after dusk or just before dawn.
Riley (Xavier Samuel) and Bree (Jodelle Ferland) were on set as well as a number of newborn vampires we have NEVER seen before.

TwilightGirrl - Eclipse is more objective than the other movies, so they’re showing scenes of the newborns that weren’t in the book (like the scene that was filmed with just riley and victoria)

ugh, all the DS doomsaying & comparing to 30-days of night. the newborn’s aren’t suppose to be ‘PRETTY”…. they are suppose to be creepy, uncontrollable, and edgy. there was a time that alot of people didn’t think Chris Weitz would do a good job….now look at what he has shown us so far! I have faith in David Slade & think Eclipse will turn out perfect! a love story w/ a dark side too

im dissapointed by david slade again. twilight vamps are supposed to be beautiful yes they are also supposed to be creepy..with the new born thing but these vamps look like the ones from 30 days of night i did not like that movie at all:/ i try to have faith in him but from everything we’ve seen from him so far i have not liked.

I don’t know what to think about this. I mean, when directing New Moon was given to Chris Weitz, I had my worries, but the moment the first photos emerged from the filming followed by the announcement of the cast, all my worries were gone.
But with David Slade its not the same reaction. Though I like some of what I’ve seen so far, none of them would totally assure me that this is going to be much better or as good as what New Moon would be.

I agree with you, TWILIGHTERGUY same thing here were i was woundering how is this Chris guy ganna do? i have seen golden compes but its not exactly like twilight and i then saw the pics and thought hey, this is exactly how i pictured this but with these pictures…nothing…. I like teh bella,jake and edward school thing…in a way…but i still dont feel so sure about it… but untill i see at least one trailer i wont be judging too harsh or bad about this. All i am asking is to please make it close to the book and not TOO gory or dark.

i know everyone keeps saying that eclipse is darker - i understand that there is a newborn battle and i’m looking forward to that, so i totally appreciate these photos and i’m so excited to see a little of how they’re setting up
my only thing is - in my opinion, eclipse is also extremely romantic, and it really don’t want them to loose all of that because they’re so focused on the newborns, anyone know what i mean?

In the book the new vamps come over the mtns..a little harder to shoot and would have not been as cool. Also Victoria made these vamps to be just pawns..to keep the Cullens busy. Most of them didn’t even know what had happen to them.
Remember to that with Eclipse being a darker movie..it will make the brightness of Breaking Dawn cooler…I’m sooo excited to see this all come together. Thanks for all the cool updates…

I really, really don’t like their golden and red eyes in new moon at all. If you watch pictures of them… they look really fake. the contacts were better on twilight in my opinion they looked more real, like golden brown actually, but now they just look like a mustard yellow and tomatoe red. Edward hasn’t that lovely and killing look now and so the others I wish Chris, the director, had used the old contacts that Catherine put on them. =P I don’t know what do you guys think..I’m so disappointed in that matter

Vampires do not have to be beautiful. I don’t think Victoria was just picking out the beautiful people to turn she was probably just turning who ever she could get her hands on. Besides these are newborns they are there to reek havoc, you want them to be darker than the rest of the vampires. You want them too look mean, rugged, and militant. They are going to a battle not a fashion show.
Its insane that we haven’t even seen NM and we are already getting a bunch of Eclipse pics. How awesome is that!! So excited!!

i think this is going to be really cool. every director puts his/her own style in the movie. i’m sure they will make it looks cooler with CGI. Also, vampires are supposed to be great swimmers so the underwater this is a cool idea. Don’t worry yet guys, it will all work out. I have a feeling that eclipse will be even better than new moon, if that is even possible! They will definitely be better than twilight.

I think people do need 2 calm down over david slade wiv eclipse! So far weve only seen photos n they havent all jumped out 2 me as WOW! but i think we shud wait 4 clips 2 emerge then start stressin worries (if any) at this point i have every faith in david slade after all he has alot 2 live up 2 wiv the clips from new moon. ( which look awesome!) cw has defiently done us proud n we need faith people tht ds will 2! N the newborns are not described as bein beautiful in eclipse, their not described at all apart from riley and bree, so just calm down! Yeah I had reservations about David Slade after seeing 30 days of night but I put that aside and gave him a chance. Now after seeing these pictures it looks as if I will be dissapointed . Why didn’t they just keep 1 director. Its almost as if each movie is unrelated and from totally different series. I know each book had somewhat of a different feel but they were all written by one person and you could tell it. All of these movies are directed by different people and you can tell THAT too.Now I am just wondering who are they going to get to do breaking dawn? I hope its Chris Weitz because if Bella looks like those newborns in the picture I would flip out.

Oh my goddd people, seriously you all need to calm down. This is only three of the newborns, we don’t know what they’re all going to look like. Plus, this is just a picture, we don’t know what it will look like on-screen. And why do people keep asking why they’re bald? It’s probably because those two guys in the picture are bald guys. I don’t believe in judging David Slade as a director until based on pictures. I will at least wait until I see some actual edited footage that is big-screen worthy. People need to stop jumping the gun on the whole David Slade bashing, it’s not really fair and it’s a little picky. I mean personally, I’m just glad these books are getting made into movies in the first place.

ooookkkaaay…. Why does this picture remind me of movies like… Dwan of the Dead? you know zombie-like movies>….. WEIRD! lol. Well, i think is definetely a new approach but It makes sensse…a n=bit. I f it was too light it would downplay the danger of the newborns so making it darker kinda fits… I just hope they don’t over do it and turn it into some weird horror-like movie…

So im not sure what the turnout will be in the end..but im kinda worried about Eclipse..and Slade directing..after what Ashley Greene said in an interview how hes’ more focused on making it a drama with fantasy added and hes making it very dark and gorier..i just hope it doesnt lose the love aspect of it and only focused on the dumb fight scene in the end..and EDWARD better PROPOSE In it!! any feedback to help me thru this anxiety? Here’s my thoughts… At first glance I thought “this guys going to push this as close to rated R as he can without having to have it at that,” then I tried to think about James. James was “hard” but I don’t think James was “beautiful” or “pretty.” I’m not talking his physique, I’m just saying he didn’t “glow” or anything; he wasn’t some kind of Adonis. So the “new borns” are supposed to be RANDOM people off the streets that Riley is “turning” right? So it makes sense I think that they are so “ordinary?” And the “creepy” look to them… We have to remember that these vamps have been ABANDONED. Riley turned them and then they received no guidence, that’s why Carlisle tries to negotiate “taking on” Bree at the end isn’t it? So, if these “new borns” are angry at being turned, confused by being abandoned, and then completely overcome, in EVERY aspect of their being, by the thirst and their new abilities (strength etc), wouldn’t they look like this? I mean, take anyone of those three in the pics and throw them in cool “period” outfits like the Volturi, make the females hair amazing, and they COULD be “beautiful…” But if you “turn” some girl, say while walking to the corner store in her “comfy sweats,” and leave her while laughing, or some guy who looks like a creep in the first place, that you find in an alley… I think this makes sense… ????

Do you think Slade will still put the love story in this thru out? B/c overall and ultimately thats what this book is about! its about love..the whole reason why this is all happening with the newborns and victoria is all b/c edwards love for bella! he killed james b/c he loves bella..i hope this isnt lost with all the fantasy werewolves and newborns..at the end i want a proposal from edward and i want a breaking dawn! any thoughts?

I think both Chris and David as directors too are attempting to reach more of a male audience, and even just an ADULT audience, as well. I don’t think we’ll lose the “romance” aspect, I think this is just the first thing we’re seeing; one piece of a MUCH larger puzzle. Have faith people.
They want this HUGE, they have to reach out to those people who HAVEN’T read the books or still view this as a “teeny-bopper” thing. And, if someone hasn’t read the books, how do you convey the true danger that Bella is in? How do you convey, visually, the hate and truly corrupt planning within Victoira’s mind, to people who are strictly walking in off the street not knowing the back story? You have to make them fierce, and intense, and scary. They’re supposed to be scary. Just wait, if David can make the “new borns” intense, let’s all try to focus all the possibilities of the intensity that he could also bring to the family of characters we all ready know and love; where he could bring that piece for us 
I’m SOOOO ridiculously excited for all of this. And Stephenie was SO involved with the other two movies, I doubt she could be completely against what David’s doing and no one would listen…. Don’t you think? Also, don’t forget, the larger the audience this reaches, the more money this brings in, the better chance we have at getting Breaking Dawn made! I don’t believe that’s actually been 100% green lighted? And we still don’t know if it’d be two movies or one?

Of course edward will propose in it. That is a major major plot line. It leads to breaking dawn, it is why he agreed to change her and it is what jacob overhears, leading to the jacob/bella kiss before the fight. OF COURSE THE PROPOSAL WILL BE THERE.

To those who may not have read the books, this contains *SPOILERS*
I completely agree with Teamspunk (love the name btw, lol). Unless they plan to promote premaritial sex and Bella having a child out of wedlock, to the “young adult” audience this mainly reaches, which of course would spark a publicity nightmare for Summit and go against EVERYTHING Stephenie Meyer wrote (considering she’s proud of her Mormon background), the proposal of course will be included in the movie, lol. I hope the people so desperate for that scene don’t get confused though… Remember, the “initial proposal” happens in Book 3, but she’s not all into it, with ring on hand, until book four! Don’t blame David or Melissa for that one….

WEll technically he proposes in New Moon after the vote, (which Chris Weitz says in in New Moon, but is sort of a surpirse..i dont think its like the book 100%) but the “real” proposal is in Eclipse..and i hope they make bella happy while doin it..that was the only thing in Eclipse i didnt like was that she hated gettin proposed to..yea i get that she already felt married to him b/c there soul mates but Edward had been waiting a long time to do that and bella was rude if you ask me! haha
But i guess i just cant see the proposal in my head on screen or talking about sex..but i do hope they put in all the awesome physicalness between them! Bed with metal rose’s anyone? haha

i agree with many of the post above…these newborns are supposed to be normal people… i was reading some of davids tweets and the paparazzi are taking pics and posting them loosing the beauty in them… people over react and dont see that they are filming but that the shots will look different later…i have a lot of love for david as a director and also because he has kept the fans informed through twitter and other things.. no body who eneters twilight in anyway cant see how big it has gotten and they will try their best to not dissapoint..so let be open to whatever comes our way…

Sorry Sheila, I’ll have to go back and reread them all again (what a shame, lol). I just remember the beginning of the fourth book, where she’s pumping gas and talking about the ring on her finger (finally)… I know he “says” more than “asks” I think at first and she gets all upset over it, then he more offically “asks” and actually HAS the ring for her to see the second time, but the ring gets put away, not put on her finger for keeps… I just keep seeing all these posts about the proposal and don’t want people freaking if Bella’s not “offically” engaged at the end of #3, know what I mean?
I’m thinking you’ll be disappointed further though… If they stick to the story line, Bella looks at the possibility of Alice or Carlisle turning her as opposed to Edward because she doesn’t want to get married, and I think it goes to the depth of her character, where she grew up having to be the “parent” and where she doesn’t want to end up like her eccentric mother… She’s supposed to be the responsible one, older in spirit than any other girl her own age, which is why she fights the idea so much… But all that attitude and reasoning leads to so much she decides and does in the book… It’s just who she is? If she had been the typical, love sick, type, say like Jessica’s character, Edward never would have looked at her? I don’t know, I just think it’s her make up, but we all know it ends up perfect right

I guess im just scared that Slade is gonna mess up Eclipse and the fans are gonna be so mad that Breaking Dawn wont be made..But i will have to just have faith about it! I never worried about Chris Weitz..he made us all feel so at ease when he posted that letter to all of us how he’s sticking to the book and he’s very happy to work on this etc..and he had a lot more street credits than Slade..all i remember about Slade is him bashing Twilight and saying he wouldnt watch it even if he was drunk
That made me sad..i just hope he puts 100% and falls in love with the characters like we all did, so he has a good mind set to make Eclipse the best movie yet!

Hey Sheila, think of it this way…. Breaking Dawn isn’t pending the success of Eclipse, it’s riding on New Moon. Eclipse will finish shooting come Halloween, before New Moon even hits theaters. Summit is going to want to grab the actors and start filming Breaking Dawn ASAP due to schedules, and of course the fact that the majority of them are supposed to age. Only Twilight is out now, and they’ve gone ahead and filmed/are filming the next two. So, regardless of your faith, or lack there of, in David, if you want to see Breaking Dawn made, go see New Moon ten times in the theater
If it makes the money that Twilight did, they’ll green light the fourth one. Summit won’t wait till Eclipse’s release in June 2010 to “decide” whether or not to make Breaking Dawn. So there ya go

Plus, they’re going to want to shoot in the winter/spring, due to all the “gray” skies needed, etc. And the fact that the battle in the fourth happens “when the snow first sticks to the ground.” So I’m not thinking they’re going to want to start filming after June, but rather after Oct, or maybe give the actors a month off… Man, Canada will be COLD in December, maybe they’ll film in the states this time?

I agree with Karen on everything so far. xD && btw; David Slade doesn’t control the script, he can add to it and edit things, but things such as removing an entire Romance arch written by Melissa R. would result in an entire rewrite.

Yes my daughter and I saw them filming on the beach a little later in the afternoon. There was 16 or 17 we counted altogether.

VERY cool! That makes sense too, considering that they only end up fighting about 18/19 by the time the “big fight” happens (due to them all turning on each other). Is it November yet? Is it June 2010 yet? Uuughh!

When I saw this picture for the first time I was like… Holy crap, they look CREEEPPPYYY! But I think they look awesome! I don’t ever remember SM saying in Eclipse that they were beautfiul. I think I remember Riley being described as handsome… But not drop dead Edward gorgeous. Again, I think they look fantastic, can’t wait to see this movie!

Hmm… I don’t think that we can really judge anything with this picture. It’s not an officially released picture, and there’s no photoshop done on it like the New Moon stills that we’ve gotten. However, the newborns do look kind of creepy, but then again, none of the vampires are like Michelangelo or something. I don’t really mind them not being “beautiful”; they’re the newborns! I’ll wait for a little while before coming to any definite conclusions about Eclipse, or David Slade for that matter!

I personally love the way they look. When I first saw this picture I got very excited. This may sound odd, but I love how they made the black newborn’s skin almost gray. Vampires are pale, regardless of race. We don’t know how they’ll look once editing, lighting, etc. are done, so we can’t necessarily judge until OFFICIAL pictures are released.
I think I will MUCH prefer New Moon and Eclipse to Twilight. Twilight was almost amateurish, while these movies have more established directors behind them.
So I say, great start and I can’t wait to see more!
