Team Edward. I love Jacob, but I’ve always been attracted by Edward’s “old world” sophistication in the books. He’s such a terrific character. When Bella kissed Jacob, he could have been mad. Instead, he told Bella that he understood human nature.

About my Team Edward allegiance: Jacob is a great character, but I’ve always been fascinated by Edward since my introduction to the series. As time went on, he started to realize that Bella had human needs, and Jacob was the only one who could properly satisfy them. I was surprised when he told Bella that he wasn’t mad after she kissed Jacob. In Breaking Dawn, it was also quite surprising (in a good way) when Edward called Jacob son.
He was the one who understood after Jacob imprinted on his daughter, as well. He had to practically convince Bella that the process was not voluntary.

Team Edward…I def. agree with Matt. I love Edward’s old-fashioned personality. And Edward is very intelligent and romantic. He is just very understanding and he always listened to Bella. And he would do anything and I mean anything to protect Bella. He is just a great character. And Jacob is a great friend to Bella. Jacob is also very sweet but Edward and Bella are meant to be together. It’s just fate that wants them together b/c they keep coming back to each other.

I am definitely Team Edward and I agree with Matt. And furthermore, I don’t think I could ever be Team Jacob. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great character and he was there for Bella when she was down but I didn’t like how he sort of disrespected her feelings for Edward. He was only ever meant to be Bella’s best friend and I didn’t like how he almost begged to have more with her. I mean I think it would have been weird if all of a sudden she was just with Jacob after everything she’d been through with Edward. And it would have been unfair for Jacob anyway because Bella would never love him the way she loves Edward.

Absolutely. I’m fascinated by the 1900s, so Edward is deeply intriguing. He’s a man with a young body, but he has an old, wise mind. He’s seen many things during his century of immorality, I suspect. Due to his time of birth, Edward also has an old-fashioned attitude that’s so adorable.
His conversations with Bella strike me as both romantic and intellectual. Their relationship has always been about the mind, as well.

honestly, I don’t really get why everyone is still arguing whether they’re team edward or team jacob. I mean,we already know what happens. She chooses Edward and her and Jacob remain friends, just like it was always meant to be. I just don’t see why we’re still arguing when there’s really no point.

Yup. Jacob is the best friend, but I think that he mistook her deep appreciation for his friendship as something akin to love. Bella did “love” him, but not in the same way that she loves Edward.
I know that Stephenie is a spiritual individual, so Edward and Bella may have a “destined” relationship. Edward was someone who felt that he was a soulless creature who could never love. Then, Bella came along and challenged his negative perspective. Was it meant to be on a deeper level?

I agree 100 percent.
Jacob is an awesome character, But just imagine the books without Edward. It would be like an ordinary love story. Because if Edward and his family weren’t in Forks, Jacob and his friends wouldn’t turn into werewolves. Bella wouldn’t have been best friends with Jacob because Edward wouldn’t have left. Edward and his family are what make the books interesting for me. And like someone mentioned above, it would be really weird if Bella just dropped everything she had with Edward to be with Jacob. And like I said before, fate wants them together. I think this because Bella is the only one Edward can’t hear in his mind, He saved her from the van killing her, he was seated next to her in biology, bella is Edward’s “singer”, and b/c he is strong enough to resist her blood. It’s kinda obvious they belong together when Edward almost killed himself when he thought Bella was dead.

Team Edward! but I love Jacob too because he’s almost as awesome as Edward.
For me, they balance each other out.
Jacob is the average 16 year oold, who sometimes doesn’t think before he acts, and is a jerk all the time, but only for love. Edward is more mature and he isn’t the aveerage 17 year old. Of course Edward is more mature than Jacob because he’s had 104 or so years to live, and Jacob didn’t.
Edward belongs with Bella, and Jacob belongs with Nessie. It’s destiny. it was pretty obvious that Bella was going to choose Edward because all the clues were there. But without an opposite force fighting against Edward and Bella’s love, the books wouldn’t be as good. So without Jacob, the series wouldn’t be as good, you gotta admit that. And of course, without Edward the series wouldn’t be special either. So like I said, I love them both

It also bothers me when certain people say that Edward only loves Bella because of her alluring blood. That is simply untrue.
I believe that there’s something akin to destiny behind it. Edward tried to die after he believed that Bella was dead. He left Forks after thinking that his presence would only endanger Bella’s life as a human.
Later on in the series, he is even able to withstand the scent of Bella’s blood. After that, their love does not diminish at all. When Bella becomes an immortal, it is said that she comes to understand how deep her relationship with Edward truly is.

That is incredibly shallow, yes. I never judge someone by their physical beauty. Character matters so much more than something as changeable as an exterior. Yes, Rob is very beautiful, but I wouldn’t be intrigued by him if his personality wasn’t so genuine and humble.

So yes I always knew it was more than just the blood but the blood is what started everything. So it is an important factor in their relationship. But their love does surpass that factor.

I’ve always found myself sympathizing with Jacob throughout the whole series… but I’ve always known that Bella and Edward were meant to be together. So I guess I’m team Switzerland. If Jacob wasn’t in the story, it wouldn’t be as interesting. What I always say to Team Jacob haters is, “how can you hate someone that Bella loves?” After all, you are reading the book through her perspective, and she loves Jake.

My preference is Edward, but I don’t despise Jacob. Jacob and Edward are both very significant characters in the saga. They are irreplaceable in their own ways: Jacob is the reliable best friend, and Edward is the wise, mysterious lover whose perspective on life is dramatically changed by Bella.

What really bugs me is when people say they are Team Edward but they are Team Taylor b/c of his muscles. That is very shallow. I understand if you are Team Taylor because he is really sweet and had a good personality. But if you choose Taylor b/c of his 8 pack. I find that to be incredibly shallow and superficial.

Absolutely. Taylor Lautner is a wonderful guy, but I wouldn’t like him if his personality was dull. That applies to Robert Pattinson, as well. Yes, they are both beautiful men, but we shouldn’t judge them solely on their physical qualities. Personality is much more attractive.
My preference would be someone with a lovely personality and underrated looks over a shallow individual with “good” looks.

I try to be as open-minded as possible. Without Jacob, it is possible that Bella would have died. In a way, he restored Bella for Edward. Similarly, Jacob wouldn’t have Renesmee without Edward. Without Edward, would Jacob’s relationship with Bella reach new heights? I don’t think so, no.
They are unique characters in their own ways, and they are both absolutely irreplaceable in the saga. Favoring one doesn’t necessarily mean that I despise the other. Thanks for agreeing that there are reasonable people on both ends.

I am team Jacob.
Personally, at 16 I would want someone who I can act my age with. I dont want to worry about the rest of my life at 16. Also in the books, bella considers herself a little more reckless when she is with Jake, which must mean when she is with Edward she feels as she has to be SOMETHING for him. Wheather it is more mature, or she has to control her actions. I dont think you should have to deal with that. Also the fact that Jake understands that Bella loves Edward, and other than a futile attempt for her to stay with him, lets her be with him, is a lot more attractive than a guy who breaks his gf car so she doesnt see her best friend. I dont like how overpowering Edward is. IF he trusted her he would have let her hug jake when she wanted to, not forced her along. Also Edward is too rash for me. Although it seems like I am hating on Edward, I just honestly think that Jake didnt get his chance. I love edward, but personally Jake is my man.

I disagree. Although I would say that Edward is more intelligent than Jacob due to the fact that he’s around 117, Bella is certainly able to act like herself around Edward. In fact, Edward even says that he’s intrigued by her humanity, which comes with all of its faults.
Furthermore, you’re forgetting that Edward ultimately lets Bella around Jacob. You have to see this from Edward’s perspective: Jacob could suddenly change and seriously harm Bella, which Edward doesn’t want to see happen. Hence all of his actions to ensure that she isn’t around a pack of wolves, including Paul. However, in Eclipse, he isn’t mad when Jacob kisses Bella. You can’t call Edward unreasonable after that. When people call Edward “controlling”, they tend to forget the exact context of his actions. He almost succeeded in killing himself after he thought that Bella was dead. As Edward said, vampires view mating on a much deeper level than most humans.
Jacob acts the same way, as well. In addition to repeatedly disrespecting Edward’s family until the events of Breaking Dawn, he certainly tries to sway Bella more than once. Before imprinting on her, he was prepared to kill Bella’s daughter, as well. If Edward is prone to irrationality, then so is Jacob.

I think that Edward accepts a truce before Jacob, as well. In Eclipse, notice how polite Edward is to Jacob, who still holds hostility for his best friend’s lover until Breaking Dawn. When Jacob imprints on his daughter, it’s Edward who convinces Bella that the action was not voluntary. Edward started to respect Jacob long before Jacob respected vampires.

People who are Team Jacob fans and are stating that Edward is controlling are being hypocritical. Yes, Edward can be slightly controlling. But he does it for all the right reasons. Do you honestly think Edward ever wants to see Bella unhappy? Edward is afraid Bella will get hurt. He’s doing it because he loves her. She is the most important person in his entire existence. Of course he is going to have the urge to protect the thing he loves most. And think about it from a vampire’s perspective, all there emotions are heightened. So just imagine how difficult it is to know that the thing you love the most could easily be taken away from you. And even more so with Bella because of the target she carries around. I don’t blame Edward at all for caring for her well-being.
Yes, Jacob is a sweet guy but he can be controlling as well. When Jacob forced Bella to kiss him. Was that not controlling? I thought that was sick. That Jacob said he would die if she didn’t kiss him. That’s a sick joke. After I read that part I found Jacob to be very immature. Because no matter how much you want someone to love you. You can’t force that person to love you back. That’s just how life is. So using the Edward is controlling excuse can apply to Jacob as well. End of long rant lol

And Edward is more understanding because in the end he ended up saying sorry and he let Bella see Jacob. And Edward was tolerant and forgiving when Bella kissed Jacob. I would not be so happy and as forgiving as Edward if I found out my boyfriend was kissing another girl. And Jacob had no respect for Bella and Edward’s relationship. When someone is in a relationship, you don’t go up to that person and make them love you. That’s not right.

I love Jacob, but I agree that Edward is in no way controlling. You have to look at the context of his actions, and the fact that vampire emotions are heightened. Vampires are incredibly protective of their mates, and Bella is the reason for Edward’s existence. Of course he wants to shield her from harm, but he acknowledged the error of his ways long before Jacob acknowledged his own.
Look at Eclipse. Edward befriended Seth, a wolf. It took Jacob quite a bit longer to respect Edward’s family, even after Esme offered him their home for shelter and food. I also agree about Jacob’s comment about dying on the battlefield in Eclipse, as well. Edward isn’t mad when Jacob kisses Bella, because he understands her needs as a human.

I agree, Edward learns quickly from his mistakes. He is not one to repeat. Jacob does take a longer time to realize the error of his actions. The reason I think Jacob takes so long to realize his faults is because he is in denial. He thinks that Edward is so controlling and he paints the picture of Edward as “the bad boyfriend”, so to speak. He thinks Edward is like brainwashing Bella. And Bella is in denial in a way too. Because she is denying herself from the love she feels for Jacob. But when she finds out what she feels for him, it’s still not enough to deteriorate the love and the passion she has for Edward.

As an original Twilight fan, I have struggled with this compelling question for years. The reason why we all feel so divided about it is because Bella herself feels so divided about it. I have attempted to break down the Team Histories…
Edward Cullen is there first of course, and anyone who read through all 498 pages of Twilight probably called themselves something akin to Team Edward at one time. Otherwise they wouldn’t have bothered finishing the book to find out what happens w/ Bella & Edward. So basically, everyone starts out as Team Edward.
Come New Moon, after Mr. Sparkles has left us alone and brokenhearted/pissed, Team Jacob is born (out of necessity). It is absolutely natural to grow close to lovable, laughable, loquacious Jake during this time. It’s just what Stephenie Meyer intended. Some readers have a hard time forgiving Mr. Sparkles when he returns, and are unable to jump back into their once-familiar Team Edward mode. Some readers, however, realize how vital he is to the story, and how justifiable his motivations for tragedy were at the time. These readers may even feel more positively to Edward than ever before. Thus, the division begins.
Eclipse is a real head spinner. The Team lines get blurred as readers change back and forth until they forget which captain they feel the strongest about. In fact, one might safely point out the emergence of Team Anti-Bella around this time, due to the ambiguity and self-estrangement that Bella forces onto the plot. It kind of tortures everyone for a while.
Breaking Dawn begins pretty darn smugly for Team Edwards (who have managed to sort out their feeling since the last book, directly juxtapose to Bella’s). They get to triumph as the wedding/honeymoon takes place. But this false sense of security is disrupted with the arrival of Renesmee. Boy, do Team Jacobs have a field day. It is pretty much horrible…in a comedic way…and provides more than enough material for bashing Team Edward (pillow biting? cup o’ blood? gahh). Out of character Edward-isms also add fuel to the fire (’sharing’ Bella?, indifference to baby?). Team Jacob looks pretty solid. Oh, wait, no — imprint time! Team Jacob dissolved. Forever. By force, no less. How cruel, and somewhat cheap for Team Jacobs. They deserve a little better than that! Team Edwards aren’t particularly happy either, left with mixed feelings toward the inconsistent and partially aloof vamp in this conclusion. What happened to “mind-over-matter” moments?!? Heck, Team E’s would even accept a simple mom-dad-baby scene that’s not N-17. So given this rocky fourth story, the Teams are pretty much resolved. Edward won. Jacob won something else. The End.
…Oh, and if anyone’s wondering, I’ve been Team Edward since the cafeteria scene in Twilight
Jake is like family though, and no less important to the story.

P.S. Team Switzerland has been shockingly forgotten! Understandably so, since it is perhaps the most temporal out of the Teams to choose. It had its beginning in Eclipse (not New Moon, as some would think) while Bella tries to be both best friends with Jacob and the girlfriend of Edward. Most readers phase in and out of Switzerland throughout the entire course of the saga, influenced by captain likability circumstances. Full-time Team Switzerlands are rare. Those that claim to be usually end up picking a Team for convenience’s sake (which then turns into genuine belief) and continue to represent relationship deference for all of us.

I basically agree with Fran85, although I chalk up Jacob’s “control” issues and his immaturity to his age. He’s only a kid. Still, though, I’m totally Team Edward. I understand why Edward has his supposed “control issues” and I think he usually figures out that he’s gone overboard, so I appreciate him learning from his mistakes.
