Heartthrob Smackdown: Leo vs. Rob
Vanity Fair is asking fans who they think has a a more intense fanbase:
“Although I personally don’t understand the infatuation with Pattinson (luckily, I grew out of my teenage obsession phase long ago), I certainly understand where today’s teenagers are coming from. But I’m still not sure that RPattz hysteria is as intense as Leo-mania was.”
we should show VF just how dedicated his fan base truly is…

There is no competition at all. Rob is so much better than Leo. Rob gets so deep into his character that it’s even odd sometimes, but it’s always with soooo good results.

Look, I was a little too young to obsess over Leo, but I remember when Titanic came out and I don’t find young Leo as attractive as Robert (when he cleans up. He has his hobo moments). Leo had/has such a baby face. Robert is more masculine and more my type.
And will they PLEASE stop calling all Rob/Twilight fans 13year olds. I’m almost 20 for christ sake! It’s so annoying. Magazines are all “The young tweens of Twilight”, “13yr old fans adore…” w/e. Most of us are older than they think. lol. Okay. rant over.

Think of it this way,
Those of you who come to robs defense saying he wins hands down, or that leo is ugly stop to think for one minor second that those who were huge leo fans in the 90’s are now doing what you are doing. Coming to the defense of leo, because in our eyes he was our first real crush, he was our “it” man. so of course we wanna say he wins and what not.
I personally have no interest for rob, it may just because i am over those years where i hang pictures of random guys on my wall. Never the less i am a fan of him only because he is part of the twilight saga.

Im 25 so when Titanic came out I was in junior high.lol.. I remember people including myself being so obsessed with Leo. It was crazy..I love me my Rob now. I think they are both beautiful men. Both super sexy and great actors. Rob is younger and better looking now. But when Leo was Robs age he was just as georgeous. I love both. I never got over my crush for Leo. I still get butterflies when I see him.

Yes, Its so anoying when people relate Rob to tweens/teens and Twlight to them. That is not the only faanbase. THe person who said he does not understand the infatuation with Rob will never understand because he doesnt get it.
Okay…where do I start…From Titanic we all loved Leo because he was charming and very nice to look at. But as for Rob…he plays the character some of us had loved for a while. I think that is why his fans are so passionate and intense about him. To some of us Edward is like the Romeo of our time and Rob one can say brought him to life.
Elena, ha yes I do! I perfectly remember the LEo mania. It was very intense, but not as crazy as Rob’s on so many different levels. Even as this dies down Rob will always be seen as our Edward.
Obviously a huge part of why we love Rob is because he plays Edward. But this is not all. His personality sense of humor, the way he sees himself he is humble and during all this he still does not see himself as a big thing still very shy and I love that about him.
Rob is not so hollywood either, neither is Kristen they try to stay out of that seen and I love that about them.

I was a Leo-maniac…even at 11…I distinctly remember the craziness surrounding him. I really believe that Rob-mania and Leo-mania are at the same level. Just like Leonardo Dicaprio, Robert Pattinson will not have to live like this forever–and for that, he should be very grateful.

BUT…
If you think about it, it’s pretty unfair to be comparing Rob’s fanbase with Leo’s TODAY. Quite frankly, Leo isn’t exactly a heartthrob…anymore. Oh, but “back in the day,” he was something amazing. “Leo Mania” was a pretty common Hollywood term, and for a very good reason.
With that said, I really do think it’s unfair to not only compare fanbases, but to also compare looks. Maybe it’d be legitimate to compare how Leo looked back when he was as crazed about as Rob is today, but even so, I can’t pick between the two men. I think Rob has a timeless beauty about him, but I can never remember Leo’s handsome youth in the 90s. Ah…Jack Dawson was my first celebrity crush in the 3rd grade. :]

I was in high school when Romeo + Juliet and Titanic came out. Leo was and still is really good-looking, but there is just something about Rob. The smoking, dirty, messy bad boy is completely opposite of my type; he is delicious! I would literally be happy to spend the rest of my life in bed chewing on him….LOL. I can’t explain why I lust him so hard although the Brit accent and goofy sense of humor might help. : )

Well, this is quite difficult. As an actor, I think that Leo is currently more accomplished than Rob. However, Rob has been showing great promise as a performer, and he’s an incredibly gorgeous man. There’s something so deeply intriguing about Rob’s entire structure, his facial details, the way he laughs with that lovely accent…

i think this vote is TOTALLY biased.
back in the day, leo had some intense fans. personally twilight will never EVER come close to beinga better movie than titanic, and i just dont think rob has the ability to be a better actor.
now dont get me wrong. I’m still a teenager, and i feel like one of the few classic twilight fans. you know the ones who were there crossing there fingers when mtv was considering signing them.. and many years before that..

Sorry, Rob. But, I have to say that Leo is my fave…
I feel bad, but I LOVE his eyes. I’m only 13, but Titanic has been one of my fave movies forever and I have loved Leo since I first saw it.
So, again, sorry Rob.
Maybe they should do a thing with Shia Labeouf and Rob and see who has more votes. I would vote for Shia since I absolutely am in love with him.

I disagree. Leo has been around for a long time. Rob has been in fewer projects, but he has incredible talent. His American accent is particularly convincing.
BTW, am I the only one who thought that Titanic was incredibly overrated?

I’ve never seen Titanic, so I never got into Leo in that way. I was 16 and into bad boys, so he wasn’t my thing. This Rob-mania totally reminded me of Leo-mania! Even that awful movie he did after Titanic went number one, due to his name alone. If I remember correctly, The Man in the Iron Mask replaced Titanic from the number one spot! He had a good run, Romeo & Juliet, Titanic & Mask, movies that would attract teenage girls. I’m glad Leo moved on from the heartthrob roles he’s pretty much a respected actor. Rob could have a similar career if he chose the right roles…

I’m 34, and back in my teenage years, for me, it was all about River Phoenix! I think that’s why Robert Pattinson appeals to me. Like River, he has that whole “I don’t care how I look” grunge style going on. And somehow it makes them gorgeous

I was in 4th grade when leo hit his heartthrob peak, and i remember the craze. Girls brought magazines in to school dedicated solely to leo. I was never really into him. If the question is whether rob mania has surpassed that of lep mania, i say rob wins. things have changed a lot in 10 years as far as the media invasion goes. We keep demanding more of our celebrities, proposing that if they are unable to handle the limelight…get off the stage.
i applaud both leo and rob (along with the rest of the twilight cast) for putting up with the insanity
