Probably the most important question in the Twilight fandom. Do you like the Sparkly vampire or the furry best friend? Do the actors that portray the characters in the movie sway your opinion in any way? Do you prefer one character in the books but another in the movies? Based on the huge amount of comments we’ve gotten in a few Team Edward/Jacob posts, I figured it was a good time to bring this up. I know things get heated when talking about this but remember this is a DISCUSSION. No one is right or wrong, we’re just here to share our opinions =D

well im team edward but sometimes i want to switch to team Switzerland but no im definity team edward. personally i think that when u read the books who ever u like best is who’s team ur on n if u like both then ur team Switzerland and i have always liked edward more in the books.

Team Edward. i think he represents almost everything a person should be. ironically he isn’t a person and he does not possess the most essential thing for humanity, a soul. his beauty and charm and unfaltering love for bella, makes me adore his character even more. the notion of “forever” allows those who read twilight, to become even more infatuated with edward. i dont think it has anything to do with him being a vampire.
i think robert pattinson does a good job of portraying edwards look and his struggle with bella. but i dont know if he accurately shows what kind of personal traits edward has.
as for jacob. i find him annoying and very forceful. i think bella wouldve always chosen and edward and jacbo never had a shot. jacob is young and naiive and somewhat of a jerk. he is headstrong and is a good match for renesme :]

he’s the perfect gentlemen, treats bella amazingly, loving her with everything he has, and is just, ahh amazing. i think jacob is obnoxious 
honestly, i don’t like the whole concept of teams. in my opinion, there never was a choice for bella really; a love triangle never really existed. bella always knew edward was the one she couldn’t live with out, sure she believes she would have ended up with jake if edward never came into her life but since edward is in her life, she never had to decide between them. it was just ALWAYS edward.
but yeah, haha im team edward
also, just sayin, but i hate when people pick teams cause of the actor’s “hotness” but yeah. js.

Team Edward… I love Edward in the book’s as well in the movies. Jacob has his part in the whole story,but I also think he is too cocky and sometimes arrogant He may be physically ”old” but I think that he still has a lot to learn from life. On the other hand Edward, who has been through a lot,is mature and from his acts in the book you can really see that he’s seen and lived through a lot. He has nothing to live for,so when Bella walks into his ‘life’ his world starts to revolve around her. he is caring and loving and he would do anything for Bella.

but since I don’t have the option, team Jacob. Definitely. since first reading New Moon. Because Jacob always -was- there for Bella when she needed him most, and knew, (rightly so?) that he was better for her than Edward. I mean, ftw? it made no sense to me that Edward left so dramatically (I promise I’m never going to hurt you again) under the assumption that it would help more than hurt her (wrong, bucko!), and then when she finally gets over him swoop back into her life and take the same place before he left like nothing happened. that whole drama sort of turned me off of Edward but not completely. I just think Jacob was much better for Bella, and his character far more human (no pun intended), flawed and real than Edward. So if I had to choose… Team Jacob, definitely. Edward’s too melodramatic and self-important. May I even venture to say shallow? Of course, I love Edward, but he’s just too perfect for my taste.
And TayLau has nothing to do with my decision, though I’m not saying he doesn’t help :]]

when i read twilight i fell in love with edward, i never thought twice about jacob in the book he didnt seem like a big character to me, when i read new moon i litterally cried, im a romantic and i really missed edward. the more i read it the more i got annoyed with jacob, same in with eclipse. so i was team edward all the way. i get to breaking dawn and start to love jacob it starts when he makes fun of rosalie with the blonde jokes and stuff, then he imprints on renesmee i felt bellas pain but i now i really like both characters and i dont believe in team edward or team jacob because jacob imprinted on renesmee so i think the teams dont justify her its not all about bella anymore.
ps. i read this really funny icon it said “renesmee jacob made out with your mom.. twice”

So, obviously I’m Team Edward.
I think Jacob is a desperate, arrogant little kid. I totally respect him more after Breaking Dawn, though. I will say that.
I don’t know why there’s still all this “TEAMS” nonsense. Edward got Bella, and Jacob got Renesmee. It was a win-win situation for everyone…soo technically teams are moot anymore.
Yes, I like Edward better as a person, though. For obvious reasons that I’ve stated many, many times. He’s such a good person, and he always tries to do the right thing FOR bella. Everything that he does is for Bella, which is really awesome. He’s loving and caring and brilliant and I could go on and on, but yes, in the technical sense of the word I would be Team Edward, but really I’m just Team TWILIGHT.

twilightaholic: uhm…because I was in the mood? Like it or not, it’s still a big part of the fandom. Arguments are easily avoided by ignoring rude comments but people just dont seem to know how to restrain themselves. That’s not my fault.
For the record, I’m team Edward. I love Edward because he’s so selfless. I’ll admit, he’s a little over dramatic and pompous at times, but it’s part of his charm. Edward <3

I really just don’t like Jacob. Anyone that likes hims NOW because of the movie, and because Taylor is “hot”, is incredibly shallow and that really annoys me. But that’s only if you are recently Team Jacob BECAUSE of Taylor…the character of Jacob was absolutely horrendous. He had such potential, and was adorable in Twilight. There are a myriad of reasons that account for my dislike of him, but here’s just a few. He assaulted Bella. There’s just no other way to put it. In Eclipse, that was inexcuable. And the fact that her dad basically glorified his forcefully kissing his daughter was ridiculous. I was so aggravated when I read that. Also, even though it isn’t meant in this way, he was sort of a pedophile in Breaking Dawn. I know Stephenie Meyer tried to make the whole imprinting thing not sound creepy, but it was. And overall, he is just an ignorant and annoying little child. He had no respect for what anyone else wanted, he was set in what he wanted and didn’t care who he hurt to get it. Edward was fine with Bella leaving him. He actually wanted it because he KNEW it’d be best for her! Well, at least he thought it because personally I disagree. I know that Jacob is definitely more dangerous than the Cullens are (excluding Jasper). Jacob wasn’t willing to let her go even though it might be better for her. Lol I really didn’t mean to write this much…but anyway, that’s just my opinion. Team Edward all the way:) But no matter what team anyone is on, it really doesn’t matter. It ended the way it ended so there’s no use harping on what anyone wanted to happen…

Personally, I’m neither. I wouldn’t say I was team Switzerland, but I dunno. Jacob just didn’t do it for me. He was too arrogant, and I didn’t like him all that much. (Plus, he’s a but of a paedophile, and that’s never good). But Edward always seemed like too much of a Mary Sue to me.
Now don’t get me wong, I love the books, and if I had to chose between the two, it’d be Edward. But I much prefer the other guys in the books.
I’m Team Jasper, Emmett and Carlisle the whole way. Books and films. I prefer the characters AND the actors. (Kellan is possibly the hottest guy alive.) I personally think that Jasper had the most potential in the books, but that SM didn’t fulfil that (enter the realm of fanfiction and you can find so many different Jasper’s, because there was so little about him in the books).

Team Switzerland! I’ve even written it in a guestbook in Forks Washington it self! I could never make the choice Bella had to make. Edward and Jacob both have their strengths and their flaws and that’s what makes them so real. They each have qualities of the perfect man but they are very different from each other. And I can’t make a choice over vampires of werewolves either.

Lol. No offense- but I’m Team Jasper~Alice. I mean, Edward’s character is really just a sort of creepy, stalkerish, control freak of sorts, disguised with a pretty face. He comes into your bedroom and watches you sleep. That’s a little. . . obsessive? And Jacob is all obsessed with killing and winning Bella, treating her like some sort of a possession- neither of them really actually listen to HER. That’s why Jasper is clearly better than Edward OR Jacob. (For Alice I mean- NOT Bella.)

In terms of who should be with Bella it’s definitely Edward, Bella and Jake are FRIENDS and that’s the relationship I want them to have.
As for which guy I like better for who, what and how they are, I’m Team JACOB because he just feels real to me, I can connect to him. He also is really funny and loyal and I like the idea that he is just a big dog who will protect you forever once you have his trust and friendship.
Edward’s character just kind of touched me in Twilight because I of course wanted the great romantic love story.
Once Jake became a bigger part of the story though I liked him more and more.
He and Edward are really different, they represent two different things. And as we all know that somebody like Edward doesn’t exist in real life anyway, I’m Team Jacob all the way.

TEAM EDWARD for the win. the reason self-respecting girls would pick edward is beacuse he is athe ideal guy-flaws and all. he is so selfless and chivilrous and thats what ladies want in a guy: A MAN, NOT A DOG. But for me, guys, the whole purpose of the teams was to decide which person was better for BELLA.
And, although we have our own opinions on our favorite characters and whatnot, it’s been established that Edward ends up with Bella, and Jacob ends up with Renesmee.

Well…you just can’t put all the blame on the people commenting when it comes to arguments. Arguments can be completely avoided by not bringing up the subject (especially when it’s been talked about millions of times already).
I just think that we all know by now that heated arguments start with the whole Edward/Jacob thing, and it’s not really a discussion. We should be bringing the fandom together, not tearing it apart.

I never ever saw Edward as a stalker. I think all he did in the books was sweet. He thinks in a different way than most people. He know he found his soulmate and has been waiting for her for almost a hundred years.

But I get the whole Jacob thing because when I read New Moon for the first time I hated Edward with a passion because he left Bella and Jacob was the Best Friend who was always there for her. *sigh*
But then at the endd of New Moon I realized why Edward did what he did and I became TEAM EDWARD again!
Though Edward is so Selfless and then I sometimes see Jacob as too Selfish.
I love them both and I am glad the story ended like it did.

I am and always will be Team Edward. I’m not attracted to guys in a romantic way that act like Jacob, although I wouldn’t mind being his friend, until he started with all the “OMGZ, U LUV ME” crap. :/ His attitude in Eclipse really irks me, although I like him before he turns into a wolf in New Moon. After that he just thinks he’s pretty boss, and it bothers me, ha ha ha.

They both are two parts to a whole. Edward is that dangerous, strongly devoted, passionate lover. Jacob is that friend that you know you can always count on that love that you feel that you can tell them anything put them together and you have what you want in one man. Team Edward, because when it comes down to it, Edward is Bella’s soulmate and she is his, they complete each other in a way no one else could no matter how hard they tried, they can’t truly be happy without each other. edward even though he makes mistakes would do anything in the universe for Bella as she would for him and he is completely unselfish. Jacob is friendship of the best kind and if Edward hadn’t made the mistake of leaving the Jacob and Bella would’ve never progressed towards anything past friendship. And in the end, even though there’s a lot of pain everyone wins which is great.

Well my philosophy is quite confusing. I have been, always will be Team Edward and Team Robert. As for Jacob, this is where it gets tricky. I HATED Jacob in the books, but when Taylor was cast, I saw him in a whole new light. It has something to do with the fact that I absolutely LOOOVE Taylor. It chanegs how i feel about Jacob in the books. When i read them again, except with Taylor in the place, I have to say that i do actually LIKE Jacob. Well when he is being a good werewolf. When he acts like a jerk, then i hate him, but in BD i actually liked Jacob…in the beginning. He was so funny and I think it just helped to here his perspective. But when he imprinted on Nessie, i was SOOOOO angry, and disgusted. But again, when I think of TAylor and say, “well he does need a happy ending with all he’s been through.” Any time before that and i was like ,” Ha, burn in hell Jacob, theres no way, you’ll be with Bella now! GO howl and runaway all you want!You got powned!!!” But like I said, the actors sort of changed my view. So I GUESS im Team Switzerland, but more Team Edward because I love Edward and Rob. I love Taylor and like Jacob. lol

I feel that in the book Jacob is more best friend material than romantic love interest. Edward is a romantic love interest to Bella so that kind of includes being a best friend also. I think I am Team Edward simply because he can be romantic but I could tell anything to him just like I would with a best friend.

Team Edward, all the way. Jacob is a very nice and caring friend to Bella. But when he started with the whole jealousy crap and his persistence to make Bella love him was really annoying to me. Edward is so self-less. And yes Edward can get overly dramatic lol but if you think about it, vampires are very protective of their mates. So it makes sense that Edward is always worried if she is ok. He always wanted to make Bella happy. Where as Jacob is sort of cocky. And Jacob disrespects Bella and Edward’s relationship when he kisses her. And he knew Bella and Edward were in a serious relationship. And it really bothered me that he doesn’t care to hurt anyone along the way to get what he wants. And it just seemed really selfish. But that’s just my opinion. Jacob can be very sweet sometimes but there is no contest when it comes to who should be with Bella.

I was Team Edward until I read all 4 books a second time…now I’m Switzerland! In reality, Jacob is the better choice - being in love with your best friend is awesome - I’m married to my best friend! Also, my husband (who hates the Saga) likes Jacob more because he’s more real to him. My husband can tell that he’s going to like New Moon much more than Twilight just due to the wolf pack.

Umm…that’s a really hard question for me…I think i like the IDEA of Edward best–Gentleman, educated, PLAYS PIANO–but in reality, i’d go with Jacob. I read Twilight, like a week before i saw the movie. I think, I started out in love with Edward, i really did. then I read New Moon, and fell in love with Jacob. when I got to eclipse, I decided I was Switzerland. however, the more I read, the more i leaned towards Jacob. after reading the series (well, New Moon && Eclipse) like five times, I loved Jacob. I still do. but I have a small soft spot for Edward. while, i’m Team Jacob. . .I can’t help the love I have for Edward. lol, very Bella-like.

I am Team Edward. I absolutely LOVE Jacob, but it’s obvious that Bella belongs with Edward. The proof is in the pudding. Jacob didn’t have a chance with Bella. Even if Edward died somehow, I still don’t think Bella would have gone with JAcob. THere is a possibility, but its only like 5%. Bella BELONGS with Edward. I mean, it shows in New Moon because of what happened to her. It’s not really that Edward is better for her, but it’s just that she likes Edward better. But you really can’t blame Jacob for getting really jerkish (is that a word?). He only did it for love. I guess it shows how much he loves Bella. And come one, cut him some clack! Jacob is only 16 years old! His actions concerning love was like the actions of an average 16 year old boy. He didn’t really think about his actions before he did them. Yes, I know edward is 17, but he’s have 100+ years to live.
And I agree with twilgihtalcoholic so much. Nicky, you can’t really say ‘no arguments’ on a touchy subject. We all know that the Team Edward/Team Jacob subject starts conflict in the fanbase. If you don’t want arguments to start, done go where you know that there is a huge possibility. That’s just my opinion.
And twilightalcoholic, you have a good point about why these Teams stuff shouldn’t even exsist anymore. But I think the reason why the Tea Edward/Jacob thing is still going on because:
A. It’s now just based on who you like better, Edward or Jacob
or
B. It’s based on who you think should’ve ended up with Bella in the end.

For me I am DEFINITELY IN LOVE WITH EDWARD. So Team Edward for me. I just think there’s this amazing aura about him. He’s so sweet, protective, sensitive, manly, mature, caring and unselfish. He’s the guy that every girl would want in their lives. But I think Jacob is a really good friend, he tries so hard to get Bella’s heart and I think he would be so good for her, but i think he would be the perfect best friend for her. The actors never swayed my opinion, I read the book and immediately loved Edward. But I think the actors just made my obsession with them even better. Haha.

When I first read new moon/ eclipse, I really disliked Jacob. I really hated the fact that he forced himself on Bella physically in eclipse, that’s pretty much what ruined it for me. but I have grown to like Jacobs character allot more. And no, it’s not because of the film. I didn’t even want Taylor to play Jake, but that’s beside the point and he has also grown on me a bit. Another reason I really couldn’t picture Jacob with Bella is the fact he is younger then her, even though physically he may not be. It is still clear in the books that his maturity level wasn’t too high. I guess I think the whole situation could have been better if Jacob didn’t practically force Bella to see him in any other way then a friend/brother type.
Though I still do feel that jakes character has made many mistakes in the book, his better qualities have grown on me, and I have been able to get past his bad points and see the good.
This all being said, I am still solidly team Edward. Not because I think he is the perfect specimen of man, physically and emotionally, because he is not. The only reason it is said that he is in the book is because it is coming from the point of view of someone who is completely in love and devoted to him. There is always going to be negatives about a person, human or vampire. Anyone who believes that isn’t the truth is deluded. He has amazing qualities, his devotion and love to Bella, his amazing empathy for others, his selfless qualities. But with good, you have to take the bad, his over protective ways, naivety, and self-hating tendencies. All of who Edward is what I like, not just because he is attractive, or because everyone assumes belles view of him must be what he is.

The first time I read the series, I was Team Edward all the way. But, then I reread New Moon. It’s so much easier to love Jacob when you’re not worried about whether or not Edward is going to come back. And after rereading New Moon, I really fell in love with Jacob. So I’m not Team Switzerland, because I still love Edward too! The people who play the roles of Edward and Jacob probably made me love Jacob more too, because I absolutely LOVE Taylor Lautner, and I don’t really like Robet Pattinson very much.

And when you love somebody you tend to overlook any flaws that person has. Edward does have self-loathing issues and he does tend to take things to the extreme. With the bad comes the good, like his unselfishness, love for Bella, and his faith in himself and in his family. And I think Bella and Edward belong together. Not that Edward is necessarily healthier for her. But they complete each other, like someone mentioned above. Because Edward and Bella have this very unique passion. And they are so cute together. i love edward and jacob both. edward is so protective and loving of bella and he cares for her with so much passion and intensity, and i do agree with others as edward is not perfect but bella does see him as a god. Edward is consumed with a sort of hate for himself, and Bella just comes into his life and changes it dramatically and i believe they do have a pure, true love. But the first time i read the book i was purely team edward but after i read it the second time i couldn’t help but feel my heart get heavier for jacob. i fell in love with him as weel. he has such a warm heart and despite it all he loves bella. he would have given her everything if she asked for it. i could not choose between either because i found myself falling in love with both of them.

I try and recall my experience reading the books for the very first time. And that was a memorable experience. Before the hoopla of the movie, I formed my own mental representations of each of the characters.
So, in my first and loved reading of the books, I am entirely team Edward. At the end of the day I probably still am.
Jacob however has worked wonders on challanging those thoughts and continues to slowly but surely, change my mind.

I liked Jacob so much better in the books than Edward. Edward is too controlling, whinny and pathetic. I really did not like him at all in Eclipse. But that being said, I really did not like the character of Bella at all. And I thought that Jacob could do much better. Still really not sure how I liked the ending of the last book. After all the suffering that Jacob went through, I would of liked a more concrete happy ending for him. Leaving that open to specualtion for myself, made the ending seem a little hollow. If Stephanie were planning on writing follow up literature on Renesmee and Jacob’s story I would hope for a Bella and Edward ending. But introducing the Nahuel character at the 11th hour, was a disappointment.

I agree, Jacob could be quite the annoying child at many points during the series, but the movies sadly swayed my opinion away from Edward slightly (used to be a religiously devoted Team Edward member)because, as gorgeous as Rob is, he played Edward as total stalker, and endearing lines from the book suddenly sounded too intense and unrealistic when he said them in such a serious tone…
But really, I love Jasper and Alice. I agree, Jasper had so much potential as a character, and he was barely explored..
Anyways, I’m not sure. I suppose if I was going by the books, Team Edward.

Team Bella. What I mean by that is that I LOVE EDWARD, definitely in a romantic way. But I think that Jacob would be the perfect best friend if he could stop thinking that a bf/gf relationship was a possibility. i don’t think that the actors in the movie have changed my opinion, though i really like kristen’s opinion on jacob (she said “Jacob is perfect for Bella. But she keeps holding onto the impossible love with Edward,” or something like that, in The Sexy Stars of New Moon<3) I definitely hated Jacob in Eclipse. I screamed when he kissed her. I was mad at Edward in New Moon. I threw the book across the room, I think you know what part. I loved Breaking Dawn 100%. Except, I would like to hear Bella’s side of the story during the pregnancy etc. instead of Jacob. Though I did gain respect for him because of that. I think Stephenie Meyers did that on purpose so that people like me wouldn’t hate him still because of Eclipse. Does anyone agree with me?

Team Jacob all the way. From the beginning I was a Jacob fan. It’s because he’s so warm and genuine, and well, as boring as it may be, he’s the safe choice. Edwards just this AMAZING creature. Guys like that actually don’t exist, whilst Jacobs, they do. Jacob’s just more relatable.. being human and all.
..and he’s hot. LOL

ARE YOU GUYS CRAZY?! The only reason people are falling for Jacob is because of Taylor Lautners Abs. And dont you think its weird that a 17 year old boy looks like that . . i think its scary. Jacob is an ass in the book and Edward is perfect. Robert is real. hes down to earth and even kristin said she prefered him. Taylor is a tad bit gay and very full of himself. I am, and always will be, Team Switzerland (but I secretly love Edward just a bit more). When Edward comes in and sweeps Bella off her feet, I could feel myself being swept away too. Twilight was the simplest of all the books, despite the issue with the Nomads. In the second book when Jacob comes along, I seriously HATED his guts, like I wanted to LA PUSH HIM off SOME CLIFFS. But when I got to Eclipse and I started to see how much Jacob was starting to fall in love with Bella, I began to like him more and more. The big reason being because I know what it feels like to love someone who doesn’t love you back ‘in THAT way’. So I thought Jacob was just… all right. Well by the time I’d finished Jacob’s part in Breaking Dawn, I finally had connected to him on all levels and I was flat out in love with him too. I don’t just like Jacob because Taylor portrays him in the movies. I really understood where he was coming from and what he was going through. So I love them both, but if I really had to choose… I’d choose the vamps, teehee. =P

I have something to add: Another reason, that I think I began to like Jacob a little more is because Bella sort of jerked him along the way. She wanted Jake in her life but with that, came hurting him. She knew how much he felt for her and that she should have probably let him go on with his life. Instead, she keeps him close because he’s everything she needed while Edward was gone. She needed some to anchor her into what was going on in her life, he kept her from losing herself in the horrible pain that was caused by Edward’s leaving. So in a sense, it technically wasn’t Jake’s fault that he fell in love with her… It wasn’t anyone’s fault; it just sorta happened.

it’s pretty damn obvious, team Edward/Rob of course!!!!! Jacobs a jerk (sorry if that offends people but its just my opinion)anyways Jake just so wasn’t meant for Bella and Edward is so romantic and sweet, also he can be over-protective sometimes but that’s just Edward and ‘just Edward’ is pretty awesome! plus in the books it gives much more detail, so it gives more detail on how much Jacob is a jerk! I used to be team switzerland coz i was like Jacobs a good friend but now that’s hard to believe i actually liked Jacob! So yeah… TEAM EDWARD!
