The Twilight Saga: New Moon Review by HisGoldenEyes.com

When I saw the Twilight Saga: New Moon on Monday at the premiere I was more than a little excited. Of course, when there is that much anticipation you are always afraid of disappointment, but Twilighters - you will not be disappointed. The one difference I noticed most when watching the film, was that the cinematography had changed from the indie film vibe, to a more traditional film style by Chris Weitz. I’m sure that when you see this movie you will agree that Chris has definitely given justice to the book, it follows the story almost exactly. Even some of the lines we all loved are included. I burst out laughing when Jacob says, “What a marshmallow!” in the movie theater after the awkward three way date.

The actors we all have grown to love in Twilight have all improved in The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Kristen, who has such a large part in this movie, does an amazing job. The breakup scene, I was most anxious about, turned out nearly perfect. It did make me cry, which is the ultimate proof of how great it was! Kristen portrayed Bella’s sadness in this film, which must have been incredibly difficult. In our interview with her she told us, “…in the book there’s nothing there’s literally nothing like it that I can think of in the real world that I could relate to. You know what I mean? Like I’ve been broken up with, I’ve had my heart broken whatever, I think. But it was still higher than that. Like “oh, oh you think you know what it feels like to hurt? Have you ever died? You don’t know what you’re talking about.” She convinced me that she really understands her character’s situation, which was crucial for portraying it. Taylor Lautner, who came so close to losing the role, shows such a passion for his character that it comes across very well on screen. Robert Pattinson, whose role is smaller, will still wow the fans. For those who were worried there will be too much, or too little Edward, you won’t be let down.

I also thought that bringing accomplished actors Michael Sheen, and Dakota Fanning into the project for the Volturi roles was a great addition. When you watch how well Aro’s “feathery voice” and Jane’s evil yet innocent nature is portrayed, you will be very pleased. Also, the action sequences and special effects have come up 5 notches, the wolves are incredibly realistic and the fight scene with the Volturi has the perfect amount of suspense. Wait until you see how well Pattinson portrays the pain Jane is putting him through! It’s truly terrifying.

What the fans will love most about The Twilight Saga: New Moon is that it was made for Twilight fans, not as your everyday book to film adaption. Keeping a movie so close to a novel is a very difficult task but I’m sure you will all agree that Chris Weitz has succeeded. A lot of Twilight fans are going to return from the theaters very happy tonight!

OH WOW! We just saw it! Here in Puerto Rico we get it a day before! And I so agree. You will not be dissapointed. It was awesome! Perfect! The place was just packed full but everyone was so into it that you could hear a pin drop. Except for the first time E shows up in the parking lot and when they kissed!

  17. Fran85 Says:

    LauBlack:
Can u please stop insulting the character Edward. No one is saying Jacob sucks. So why do u have to always say something bad about Edward. And we are all Twilight fans here. It’s immature and there is no need for that. We can all be friends Team Edward and Team Jacob fans. All of this banter is just creating problems between the twilight fans.

  18. WESRIDER Says:

hey, its been nearly 48hrs since i saw it here in australia n i totally agree - the scene with jane torturing edward is frikkin cool n i cant wait to see m.sheen take aro to another level in BD. will try and go again this weekend so i can revisit all the little bits i may have missed. its a 2 big thumbs up from me!

  19. Rose Says:

Just saw the movie…no words, I really did not think I would like it that much, though I was sure it was going to be much better than twilight…but this…Chris is just a genious!!! - and I’m not saying this because I am a fan :)

  20. TAB Says:

Hopefully watching it tomorrow…If I can get tickets, that is. I’m pretty excited.

  21. no_handy Says:

i don’t expect much from the new movie - hopefully its a little better than the first.
But I don’t think its going to be bad as some critics say it is - again the movies are made for the fans - not the haters

  22. Alice_fan 1 Says:

CAN’T WAIT!!!!!!! I’ve had my tickets since staurday now i just have to wait until 4 oclock tommrow!

  23. Kay Says:

    12pm tomorrow :) I love online school.
i’m not dissing on anyone here, but i really hope the girls who will scream at shirtless scenes will be in school, i don’t need that covering the lines i want to hear and inhibit my ability to soak up the goodness of the movie! haha
    :) guess we’ll see. i’m excited regardless

  24. team riley Says:

thanks for the review i saw it a couple of days ago (australia) and COMPLETELY agree with you. im so sick of reading bad reviews, the movie was awesome and totally followed the book. basically what it comes down to is that it is a movie made for the fans, and the fans will LOVE IT :D

  25. Lindsay Says:

I agree with you totally … I saw it two nights ago in Belgium and it really stays very close to the book, Chris Weitz is a genius … I really hope he is coming back for Breaking Dawn …

  26. team riley Says:

oh and (L) xavier samuel he is so hot, love him adelaide boy ;) that accent stands out so much lol. great interviews and good questions too, boo boo stewart is cute as!

  27. Amber Says:

I just got back from the movie, and I have to say I’m speechless. It was everything I wanted and more - And WHAT a cliff hanger! Haha! It will be a miracle if I don’t die of anticipation for New Moon!

  28. Katie Says:

words cannot describe how amazing that movie was. epic. love. seriously awesome.

  29. Amber Says:

Correction: It will be a miracle if I don’t die of anticipation for ECLIPSE! Haha, I’ve got New Moon on the brain, if you can’t tell! :)

  30. twilightaholic Says:

    just saw the movie.

    OMG. it was ALMOST perfect.

The only thing that screwed it up was Taylor Lautner’s acting — the delivery was so poor, I was laughing whenever he said something serious. He is a terrible actor — I was hoping he’d improve in NM, but it was just hilarious how bad it was.

Rob, however….his acting was flawless. I loved everything he did — the emotions played across his face perfectly, exactly how I pictured it. He was more sarcastic and joking, too, which was amazing. He was even more romantic, if that’s even possible.

Kristen played Bella perfectly as well. Everything she did was spot on, and i loved it.

As far as special effects go, it was WAYYY better than Twilight. Some parts were ehhh…but most of it was really, really good.

The volturi were super impressive, scary, and perfect. I LOVED them.

It stayed amazingly close to the book — i LOVED ITTTT!!

    And the ending, wow.

The people in my theater sucked, though. They were really rude the entire time and laughed at a lot of stuff that I thought was REALLY good.

  31. anjali Says:

everyone whos saying it was close to the book, obviously needs to reread. they left out bella thinking it was a dream, the whole meteor speech EVERYTHING.

  32. Nightmare and Dream Says:

And there I have to wait another 52 hours… q.q

  33. VampireGirl366 Says:

I JUST GOT HOME FROM SEEING IT and I LOVE IT I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED IT REALLY CLOSE TO THE BOOK SO COOL!!!!!

  34. lucy Says:

You are completely right!!!!! It truly was amazing. It really was so close to the book and the acting was just incredible. I can’t even believe how well Taylor and Kristen did. TAYLOR’S ACTING (AND HIS APPEARANCE) WAS AMAZING IMO. Did anyone else find that Rob looked a whole lot less attractive in New Moon though?

They left everything that was necessary in, and although there were a few explanations that were left out, it was definately made for fans of the novels; those who would understand what was going on.

The one disappointment though was showing Alice’s vision of Bella as a vampire, I couldn’t believe how cheesy it was. I’m praying Bella will look better when she actually is changed. The entire cinema literally laughed AT that scene, it was horrible.

I watched it in Australia two nights ago at a midnight show and literally the majority of the theatres walked out Team Jacob, which was definately not surprising. I cannot wait to watch it again, what a great movie!!!

  35. Julie Says:

Just got home from watching the movie. I liked Taylor and Rob, but I’m sorry, I think Kristen sucks. There’s barely any emotions from her.

  36. Missy Says:

I guess i am one of the few who found it a bit dissapointing? To me some keypoints were misinterpreted, the biggest being when Edward is in the alley about to step in the sun. ( dont want to say to much for those who havent seen it yet) To me that whole scene just wasn’t right and it was what I most wanted to see. I found the movie visually very nice, the part where you see Paul change into the wolf was beautifull and I liked the movie better then the first but still, afterwards there was this nagging feeling…

I know you can’t please everyone and overall the movie was great but not what I hoped it would be.

Cant wait to see Eclipse, it’s all team Jasper here :)

  37. jennyfrenchy Says:

i think you’re wrong, julie. kristen plays well because of her character, bella, who is a reverved-nature.

  38. jennyfrenchy Says:

i would say bella is a reserved-nature and not “reverved” !!^^

  39. Bree Says:

Honastly i loved the movie, it was really good and i would go see it again, the only part i didnt like about it was how it ended but then again if you think about eclipse that is way the new moon ending was kinda bad. i think the Jacob and Edward were fricken hotties in this movie, and i wanna see it agian.
Julie, i think you are right about the whole bella think she doesnt fit the character very well but i think she okay in some other movies, but its to late now anyways they couldnt change her character if they wanted to because its so far along in all the movies, but i dont know i wish the brake up scene would have been better, but oh well you cant get everything you want.(:

  40. jennyfrenchy Says:

what a pity to wait for eclipse… i want to see the rest of the story, even if i know the end by reading the 4th book…

  41. Bree Says:

OMG I hope they make Midnight Sun a movie too! that would be amazing!! :)

  42. jennyfrenchy Says:

sorry for this question, but what time do theaters open ? because you all say that you have just see te film, and it’s not yet 8:00 am !

  43. saw Says:

    thank you for the review!
i saw it a couple hours ago..midnight showing! it was amazing. I went into it..not having such a high expectation. And i thought that Chris did a great job!

kristen - she was heartbreaking and painful to watch. she was so into the role of bella…it was so gut wrenching to see her in pain. i love kristen! she is such a great actress and she really did do bella justice…she really did.

rob - although he is not the main focus as much as the first one, every scene he’s in…he’s just fantastic. he really got edwards character..he definitely was edward and just the way he was saying that romeo and juliet quote. wow that was so impressive to watch. and when jane was causing him pain…he was just..i mean..no words can explain.

taylor - he really did step it up a notch. i thought he did a great job with carrying the movie and he was definitely fun to watch. and of course everyone was in awe of his body. haha.

billy burke - man oh man..that guy is so funny. i love billy.

jessica - love her lines when she was with bella in the movie theatre! :D

over all…the movie was awesome. i thought the script was well written and a lot of the quotes from the book was there. im so glad i saw it already! :) im definitely watching it again today :)

    now..we wait for eclipse :D

  44. pan Says:

    question:

do you think thats how bella is going to look like when she turns into a vampire in breaking dawn?

  45. Rolo Says:

Oh! It sounds amazing! I cannot wait to see this epicness that is New Moon. :D

  46. pauleta Says:

I saw the movie, i like it bu not as much as the first one.

Kristen was amazing. she was hearthbreaking when needed, funny some times, playfull with jacob desperatly in love with edward. She makes me by this stupid idea from meyer’s book that infactuation is love. Ok i don’t want to debate about that because i really think meyer’s fail to show us why this two find so special about the other one.

Taylor was good, you feel for him and you almost hate bella when she runs to italy.

Rob: he was good with what he has to work with. This is beag faillure of the book. Edward doesn’t has that much personnality a part that he’s infactuated by bella; This not enoug to give a character an aura. But that’s just me.So rob play the tortured in love well.

Alice: Ashley like her as alice.

Voltury: all good especially dakota and michael sheen but the other does’t have much dialogue which is a shame.

Charlie,Good dad desparate about her daughter depression. Sweet and funny at time, akwardly sweet is how billy burke and kristen’re. Which is perfect.

The human: great especially mike, and jessica.

the wolf pack: Not that good but ok overall.

The cinematography good but without personnalty. Less gothic, young, modern, and romantic than twilight.
    But beautifull picture.

The cgi: not that good but, i don’t care.

Music: Not that good but the tom yorke one was perfect. it goes very well with the tree scene where it is played.
The scored not very good sorry desplat fan but bowell was better.

the script: good seing the materiel a little bit let cliche than the materiel. But some line are just so, i don’t know, they make you uncounfortable and you come to think it was written by a teenage girl because it’s so cliche.

I’m glad the actors really like the movie because it’s not oscar wealthy or even critics wealthy but it has nothing to do with the actors the crue, the director but with the book themselves.Bella is just a marry sue, edward is pathetic and patronising, Jacob is the only one normal but he has to spend most of the film as an eye candy wich is so not good.

  47. Vanessa Says:

I saw the movie at midnight and I was very pleased. I think everybody did such a great job and I was very impressed with Taylor Lautner. He made me almost want to switch to team Jacob…almost..lol.And Kristen was also great she made me want to cry, I believed every bit of her performance. The only bad thing I have to say is that I felt like the movie was a little rushed..I felt like they skipped alot..it just seemed to go by so fast and I think they kind of left out alot. I understand they have to squeeze so much into only 2 hours but I just couldn’t help but want a little more. Other than that loved it! I will probably go see it again!

  48. Jackson Says:

Chris Weitz did a helluva job! And anyone else that worked on this one.

There was good laughs in this too. Jessica made me laugh several times!
And I loved the three way date thing.
    Mike was so sick! ha

  49. amber Says:

Although I diagree with pauleta.. Blah blah.

The movie was so strange and weird. I mean the bella and edward parts were great. Especaily the ending. But I think the down fall of the move was how close they stood to the book. The scenes just seem to jump and jump. The movie felt rush and mushed together. It didn’t mix well. The acting was good but the movie was not. Twilight was way better. Im sorry I had to say it. I like the movie though it just felt to weird for me and literailty breaks my heart

  50. momoi Says:

well i seen the movie about 11 hours ago and it was good, but not amazing like i had hoped it would be. i like twilight alot better. like in the beginning bella didn’t seem to against her b-day, it seemed like oh whatevers also i would think there would be more scenes with bella and jacob and we’d see that rabbit he was working on but we didn’t, and that ending was very upsetting. there’s few more things i’m disappointed with, but i don’t wanna ruin it for the ones who never seen the movie yet.

  51. Christinamontana Says:

Momoi, there is no possible way New Moon could not be better than Twilight. Twilight was pretty awful.

  52. kiki Says:

wow this is funny to read… haha some ppl say it was better than twilight!! wow i loved new moon and cant stop thinking about it!! it was really good!! their were little details that were precious.
Kristen was alot better! Rob was soooo good and Taylor was surprisingly good!!! I love Chris Weitz. I think this movie was as good as it could be. it was so close to the book and i cant believe that some ppl r disappointed. didnt the fans(me also) want it close to the book! but there is always something to complain about!! i really liked it and i liked the ending!! i think the majority of the fans loved it right?

  53. lindarenee Says:

that was a great review. i feel exactly the same way!!! i saw it last night and i cannot stop thinking about it. im taking my parents next week :) chris weitz is amazing.. he did a brilliant job. and rob jacob a kristen played their characters so well!!!! and her nightmare scenes.. i felt like my heart was being ripped out. and the ending… i want you to marry me.. *sharp in take of breathe* SO GOOD!

  54. lindarenee Says:

andd…. everyone in the cinema laughed AT the future scene of bella and edward. THAT WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE FUNNY!

  55. kelsi Says:

Just saw the movie last night:) well this morning at 12:01 amazing!!!!!! Kimmy great review. Kristen stewart did a stunning job, her depression level was top notch. I thought the movie was like watching the book chris stayed so close only like two things changed and they were just increased not really fully changed. My rating 10 out of 10! Im seeing it again tomorrow. i cant wait until june 30th for eclipse:)

  56. amber Says:

Sorry I had to leave another comment. Twilight was way better than new moon. Someone said twilight was awful I actuly think new moon was awful. I was way dissapointed with it.. Maybe I was just excepting more from it.

  57. reese Says:

    agree with comment 56.
    I expect more intense feeling.
The break up scene is NOT DAMN SAD enough.
And I hate the elevator in volturi place!

WARNING:DO NOT WATCH ANY LEAK SCENES IN YOUTUBE OR ANY SITE - IT’LL KILL YOU AFTER YOU LEFT THE THEATER.

  58. Bea Says:

Great review!! My opinion exactly! This movie was SO enourmosly much better than I had ever anticipated! It followed the book almost as close as one can do. However a bookreader always wants longer scenes but that cannot be done in a movie when you have a lot to fit into it, so that didn’t bother me. I think it’s not possible to compare it to Twilight, because it’s a whole other movie. This was so different and way, way better! First of all it followed the book really close, (which Twilight didn’t), a big LOVE and thanks to Chris Weitz for that. The acting was amazing - Taylor, Kristen and Rob impressed me big time! I loved the wolves! I loved the sparkle! My throat ached with sorrow when Edward kissed Bella outside her house and in which he made Romeo’s quote from class reality. His facial expressions in the movie was flawless! Loved the scene from Rio!! No, Edward was not less gorgeous in NM, he was just as gorgeous - everyone in the movie looked fabulous! My fellow audience (in Sweden) was wonderful. It was so silent that you could hear a pin drop but we also laughed at the same places. The movie was heartbreaking but funny at times (in a good way). The ending was mean, but I wonder if it hadn’t been better if Bella had said: “No!” And then “the end” - that would’ve been a lot more intriguing cause now all the guys (that I overheard)thought she was just going to say yes immediately. This was one of the best movies I think I’ve seen and I want, must, WILL see it again soon!!!

  59. Bea Says:

Comment 57: But they do ride in an elevator at the Volturi’s place…check the first page in chapter 21, if that’s what you’re annoyed about.

  60. jazzx Says:

forgot to mention the music which was perfect and epic all, it was placed at the exact correct times.

  61. Da-Da-Da-Dawwnnnn =] Says:

    Rofl. xD

I haven’t even seen the movie yet and I say it’s better than Twilight.

Twilight was the biggest fail of the decade. New Moon can’t be worse. =P

  62. reese Says:

Reply comment59. I know they ride in the elevator but I mean it looks like an elevator in construction site.

  63. ARW Says:

Agree wih 49, scenes jump and jump- give us no time to feel. we should feel more emotion.
Agree with 50, there’s a lot of thing we cannot say here, don’t wanna ruin anyone who never seen it yet.

    LOVE ALL THE CAST.
    Don’t understand the director.
Keep me hanging all the time that movie run? for marketing? commercial? not art of the movie at all?

  64. LoveIt Says:

OMG…The Photos in Video are Amazing…Realy…They are soo Beautiful.

  65. xheheitssamx Says:

one thing i really really hate is when people dont understand what a film adaptation of a book MEANS!
it is NOT going to be exactly like the book. really people. its not possible. so all of the negative people need to get over it.
and those saying it sucked? or the break up scene wasnt SAD?! i cried. it stuck exactly to the book at that part..with a few added lines. and those added lines made it absolutely heartbreaking. i wont say exactly what happened though because i know a lot of people havent seen the movie yet:]
and people saying its better than twilight? im actually shocked that ANYONE thinks that. twilight was..well it wasnt horrible..but twilight just wasnt..very good. it didnt stick to the book as well..and the lighting and camera angles were horrible.
chris weitz was much better for this movie. he did absolutely amazing(ill move on to positive things so i dont get angry at ignorant people..haha)
i thought the movie was just about perfect. there were like..3 or 4 things that i thought of that could have been better..but thats it.
rob portrayed his character brilliantly. i couldnt believe how well he displayed the emotions!
same for kristen too. right after the break up..she looked just empty..which is what she was supposed to look like of course:]
and wooooo taylor. he was just amazing. gorgeous..hot body..greatttt acting. i felt so bad for him at some parts. i almost cried for him too.
all in all..i thought the movie was spectacular. it completely surpassed all of my expectations(which were low considering twilight)by about..10000 times. i couldnt believe how great it was.
im going to see it again tomororow..even though ive already seen it twice…and i cant wait
    haha:]

  66. Madison Says:

    I LIKED THE ENDING!

    there i said it.

  67. reese Says:

I really upset (almost hate) with the movie after I saw and I never think I will say this. It is not what supposed to be. I ask myself ”Am I negative person?”
I don’t want to live with the feeling that I’m so disappointed with the movie which I was waiting for one year. I went alone to see it for the second time and I really felt much better. I know the movie is not perfect, some points I still disagree but at least I still love the cast and the director as I want to. I almost lose my love and my respect to them after the first time I saw the movie.

  68. reese Says:

Reasons some people didn’t love New Moon.
    1. Too many people in the theater and all are over excited.
    2. They were laughing and making noise most of the time.
    3. They were screaming when Edward, Jacob and wolf appear. (my colleague sit next to me and scratch my arm all the time)
    4. They did not concentrate in the movie at all.

  69. reese Says:

The second time I went, I choose the show time before noon because not many people go out before noon in my country.
If you are upset, please watch New Moon again and find a theater or a show time that will have less people annoy you. I know it’s hard but please try.

  70. OhMyGodEdward Says:

More bad acting from Kstew and cheesy effects…way to ruin what was a wonderful story, this doesn’t even come close to making up for that abortion of a book BD. This franchise is a joke, now I get to picture these insults to acting everytime I try and read the books. Not impressed.
