Summit Entertainment Replaces ‘Eclipse’ Editor

“Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the uber-successful Twilight series, confirmed this morning that it has replaced Eclipse editor Art Jones with Nancy Richardson, the editor of Catherine Hardwicke’s original Twilight film. The studio is not placing blame on Jones, who previously worked with Eclipse director David Slade on his horror film 30 Days of Night as well as Slade’s Ellen Page-starrer Hard Candy. They do believe, however, that Slade’s material – which they call “very good” – needed a stronger edit. The studio has more confidence in Richardson, who they say understands the emotion of the characters and is an ace at balancing action with the other elements of the film. Richardson recently completed Miley Cyrus’ upcoming romantic drama The Last Song. Eclipse is scheduled to debut on June 30.”
Who else is sort of worried they are changing editors this late in the game? O_O
I’m sure it will be okay though.

First?
March 2nd, 2010 at 5:34 PM
i don’t like the sound of that…
March 2nd, 2010 at 5:35 PM
Grrr….why not the editor of New Moon, I loved the look, feel, and flow of that movie much more than the first. Oh boy…
March 2nd, 2010 at 5:35 PM
That is worrying, I mean we’re only a few months away…
March 2nd, 2010 at 5:36 PM
Haha, yes! I’m a dork!
I hope changing editors will be a good thing.
I mean she worked on Twilight so it should be okay? Right? :/
March 2nd, 2010 at 5:46 PM
i dont like that either did you guys see the edited stuff on twilight come on now hahaha
March 2nd, 2010 at 5:46 PM
For me personally, I’m good with this. I feel a lot of the emotion of the characters was lost in New Moon. I wasn’t that into New Moon like I was Twilight. In Twilight I lived through the characters. In New Moon I didn’t.
March 2nd, 2010 at 5:56 PM
Oh my…
I liked Twilight when I first saw it but now that I watch it… oh boy. New Moon’s editing was so much better than Twilights. uh… not sure how i feel about this :\
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:06 PM
dont like this. wasnt pleased with emoton of twilight.
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:25 PM
Oh boy. Now I’m a little worried. Twilight’s editing could have used a lot of work.
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:52 PM
I KNOW it’ll be a good thing. You guys have to remember that this movie have a diferent director, so it wont be the same…
And i really need more romance in eclipse
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:57 PM
My first reaction was, uh-oh. But then I calmed down and remembered that it will be awesome no matter what.
March 2nd, 2010 at 7:00 PM
Its iffy ya’ll. I hope its a good thing.
March 2nd, 2010 at 7:10 PM
Ok, this is bad. I, personally, thought that Twilight was horrible, so bringing back something from that is not good.
March 2nd, 2010 at 7:38 PM
The only thing that I’m really worried about it the fact that it’s so late into the editing process. We only have 120 days until Eclipse comes out. What’s going to happen with everything that has already been edited? Is it going to be scraped and they’re going to start over?
But, I’m going to try and keep an open mind. I’m a little worried but I’m not going to start freaking out.
March 2nd, 2010 at 8:01 PM
its already a couple moths away i really dont waant it to feel like it was rushed
March 2nd, 2010 at 8:02 PM
Sounds a little sketchy, but then again I would rather they fix it rather than make the final cut second-rate. Also not sure about the new editor if the main props they can give him is a C-rated Miley Cyrus movie :/
March 2nd, 2010 at 8:29 PM
I am a little nervous because it’s so late in the game. But that they’re replacing a horror film editor with the original makes me a little less. Hopefully she’ll have more to work with this time around. Ug! They’re so new the game they’re using this known money maker as their learn as you go movie.

While I think NM was far superior to TWILIGHT, I attribute it to the director’s work and footage, not the work of the editor. The editor can only do so much with what they have. Obviously TWILIGHT needed MAJOR work, and NM probably less. And that Summit is replacing the editor, one who has worked with Slade on horror films, should encourage us in that they are aiming for more than just a horror angle to ECLIPSE. I agree with an earlier post here, I need more romance in ECLIPSE. We need to understand just what is so amazing about E&B’s love that they’re willing to endure so much for each other. I’m optimistic.

AND HEY…Kellan said it himself here, and I think this is EXACTLY why Summit is replacing the editor: “…but there’s a lot of action [this time around]. A lot more than the love story.” ENOUGH SAID.

I don’t care who edits as long as they keep the emotional connection between Bella and Edward and give us more heat between the two that is in the books in the movie, and it looks like it might be as seen in the leaked photos.
Just don’t scarifice Bella and Edward for ACTION or JACOB.
I don’t want to just get my romance from Remember Me. I want it from Twilight too.
March 2nd, 2010 at 11:18 PM
Knew this was going to happen when they hired on David Slade :/
Knew he was going to “horror” it up, because…frankly, that’s all he knows how to do. Sounds like Summit is trying to make light of the situation by making sure to add the line “very good” to describe the material Slade gave them to work with. I HOPE I’m wrong, I HOPE I get to eat my words. I HOPE Eclipse turns out to be the best of the 3 films so far. This explains why we haven’t had any sneek peeks or teaser trailers…ugh.
Switching editors this late in the game means they had a raw cut, and someone high up on the chain of Summit Entertainment’s command didn’t approve. You don’t make that big a change, if it wasn’t a big problem. *worried*

It’s worrisome that they are having to bring in people to change the vision started by the director…although I feel it justifies my feelings of shock that they hired David Slade. The Twilight Saga is not in the horror genre, and I don’t want it to be. Hopefully they are able to produce something that looks like Stephanie Meyer’s world. I hope this movie isn’t way off in tone; it was my favorite book.

Changing editors this late in the game is not a good sign. It means they are trying to fix a crappy first draft.
Can anyone think of a movie that changed editors or recut this close to release date and ended up great? Please, I hope so. It will make me feel better.
March 3rd, 2010 at 7:46 AM
MAYBE SUMMIT SHOULD RE-LEAK THE PHOTOS OF EDWARD AND BELLA. Got alot of fans excited…NOT WORRIED.
THROW THE FANS A BONE…
March 3rd, 2010 at 7:51 AM
yeah I’m a little worried about them changing the editors so late, but I trust Summit in that if it wasn’t as well edited as it could be and he didn’t understand the feel of the movie. and honestly no offense to guys but I would think that a woman editor would be better for it. I still have to wonder are they going to re make the trailer that is due to come out before ‘Remember Me’?
March 3rd, 2010 at 12:34 PM
Not surprised at all.
I have noo hope for this movie after reading that horrid script. It sounds to me like the rough cut was so horrible and wrong that they actually had to step in and fire someone.
As for the Twilight editor getting hired, *claps*. Finally, a step in the RIGHT direction. I liked Twilight more than NM, which is rare I suppose, but it was better.
