Michael Welch discusses New Moon’s Opening Weekend

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

“I’m feeling great,” he said. “I feel really good. The night the movie opened, Friday night, Melissa Rosenberg, the screenwriter, threw a big ‘Twilight’ party at some fancy place ion Hollywood. As soon as I went in, I was talking to one of my buddies from Summit, and he was like, ‘Just guess what we made from the midnight screening and the one day.’ I was like, ‘$35 million,’ being generous. My girlfriend said, ‘$50 million,’ and I looked at her like she was crazy. He goes, ‘$70 million!’ and I just started laughing uncontrollably. To get those kinds of numbers, it means that many people must have seen the film at least three times by the end of opening day!

“That is insane,” he added. “And I love it.”

Calgary Herald: New Moon’s Humans Keep It Real

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

The Calgary Herald gives the humans of New Moon some much needed attention in a new interview.

If you weren’t playing humans, which would you prefer to play: a vampire or a werewolf?

Anna: I would personally rather be a werewolf since they seem to get to have a lot more fun. The vampires are very cool, but they have to be very calm and collected all the time. The werewolves get to let loose a little bit more.

Michael: I’d much rather play a vampire. Being a vampire would be cool, I think, for the first 100 years or so. It’d be fun to be able to play because vampires are just too cool; they’re just sexy and interesting and complicated.

Everyone always talks about Team Edward and Team Jacob. Don’t you think it’s time to start Team Mike and Team Eric?

Michael: Ya, I do! Actually, I’ve had friends who’ve jokingly made up some Team Mike t-shirts.

Justin: I would love to do that. I think you’d have to campaign. It’s political. I’d need lobbyists and stuff.

The mood for New Moon is pretty bleak for a lot of the film. You guys represent the normal world for Bella, but you also provide a lot of comic relief.

Justin: Bella’s really depressed throughout the movie so we really have to bring light to it, otherwise it’s just too dark the whole time.

Michael: Our job is to add a little humour, add a little levity, and just come across as realistic kids in a small town in Washington.

Anna: And I think that there’s an inherent comedy in our blissful ignorance of everything that Bella is going through in the supernatural world.

Funny New Mike Welch Interview

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

Buzznet has a pretty amusing new interview with Mike Welch. One of the things he talks about is what he would say to Edward and Bella if he met them in real life. xD

Ah-nell-ee: If you met Bella in real life, what would you say to her? What would you say to Edward?

Michael Welch: I would tell Bella, “Listen girl. I know you’re caught up in this supernatural love triangle, but why don’t you give Mike Newton a shot? If the werewolf represents the stable option in your life, and the vampire is constantly fighting the urge to drain you of your precious blood, maybe you need broaden your horizons a bit and consider dating a HUMAN BEING! Just a thought.

“Oh! By the way, did you know that Kristen Stewart is playing you in the 4-part bio-pic of your life? Pretty cool huh?… What do you mean you’ve never heard of her? You haven’t seen that terrible movie Panic Room?… Well, what about Into the Wild, In the Land of Women, or The Messengers?… Wow, you need to get out more, Arizona. I’m gonna make you a list of films. You ever seen The Usual Suspects?… No?? Oh boy! You’re in for a treat! Come on, I’ll buy you a soda, then we’re renting some movies!!”

I would tell Edward, “Thanks a lot buddy! You’ve raised the bar to such unreasonable heights, the rest of us guys don’t stand a chance. We can’t sparkle you jerk! Not even Efron can sparkle. How do you think that makes him feel, huh??… Oh great, now you’re making Zac Efron cry Edward! You proud of yourself, huh, you feel like a big man?… Shhh, it’s ok Zac. I’m here for you pumpkin. Great, now I have to give him his juice box… And for goodness sake, would you take Bella out to see some movies? Rent Casablanca or something, or at least take her out to see The Hangover. Jeeze- louise Ed!”

Mike Welch Talks About Edward’s Role In New Moon

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

MTV has a new interview with Mike Welch where he talks about Edward’s role in New Moon and exactly how often we’ll get to see him.

Without a doubt, huge groups of Twilighters all over the world fantasize about Edward Cullen every day. But as popular as breakout star Robert Patttinson has become, those who’ve read “New Moon” know that his character Edward is absent for much of the story. Now, we’ve got the scoop on director Chris Weitz’s dreamy solution to the problem.

“They figured out a very clever way to get Edward back in the film much more than he is in the book,” revealed “Twilight” series star Michael Welch when he stopped by the MTV studios recently, acknowledging that Weitz and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg have devised a plan to work around the “New Moon” plot — which has Edward breaking up with Bella (Kristen Stewart) early in the story and fleeing to Italy. “It’s more of, like, a hallucination kind of thing.”
