Kimmy and Nicky going to San Fransisco for the Official Twilight Convention!

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Nicky and I are both very excited to be attending the Official Twilight Convention in San Fransisco! The convention started yesterday, but due to the unfortunate fact that I’m is still in high school, we couldn’t make it yesterday. Today we will be doing a panel on how we got into the fandom! I’ll will explain how I started the site, Nicky will talk about how she joined in, and how the amazing adventure got more and more huge until we are in this great fandom today. :) Probably some funny stories will pop up about the craziness that comes from trying to run such a huge site when most of the staff is still in school. Follow our tweets for info, @HisGoldenEyes! It’s all very exciting, this is the first time either of us have been to an Official Twilight Convention!

Newcon Press Release!

“New Moon cast descends on Nashville. Jackson Ratbhone hosts music festival with friends and fans”

“As if it wasn’t enough to have the biggest movie of the year hitting theaters next month, New Moon star, Jackson Rathbone, is adding a music festival to his to do list. Rathbone and some of his fellow cast members will be hosting the NewCon Festival in Nashville, Tennessee from November 6th through the 8th.

Jackson’s band, 100 Monkeys, will be headlining the festival. The weekend includes Twilight and New Moon inspired art competitions as well as poetry and fan fiction contests. 100 Monkeys will also be part of an open jam session on Saturday, November 7th. Anyone attending the festival can bring their instrument to jam with the band for two hours.

The band will pick one lucky fan to join them on stage Saturday night during their concert at The Wildhorse Saloon in downtown Nashville.

Award winning artist, Kelly Garrett Rathbone, (Jackson’s sister) will be one of the judges at the art competition and a panelist during the Q&A sessions over the weekend. She currently has pieces on exhibit in galleries nationwide.

NewCon’s goal is to inspire people to get more involved in the arts. The winners of the writing and art contests will get a private meet & greet with all attending cast members and have their winning pieces signed by them as well. “We wanted to do something different that inspires people to get off their couch and create something,” said Rathbone.

100 Monkeys will also host a ‘design your own t-shirt’ contest during the festival. The winning shirt will actually get printed as a limited edition and sold on the band’s website, with all of the money going to the Spencer Bell Legacy Project. Spencer was a dear friend of Jackson and his band mates who lost his battle with adrenal cancer in 2006.

The weekend promises to be anything but ordinary. More cast members and bands will be announced every week leading up to the event. To make sure everyone has time to fully enjoy the festival, there are only 400 tickets
available. The Renaissance Hotel & Convention Center is the host hotel for the festival.

NewCon: A New Kind of Convention

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

As you’ll soon see, our events are more like festivals than conventions. With that said, this is an event created to inspire creativity and awareness of the arts in all forms. Come with an open mind and bring your imagination!
Everyone is part of our community and we want all of you to feel welcomed. Our goal is for everyone to have a good time and not worry about whether or not you can bring your camera or if you’re allowed to say hi to a cast member. Of course you can!
We gear our daily events around things that are fun for the guests and the cast, which include art and poetry contests as well as musical acts. Winners from these contests get a private meet & greet with attending cast and band members. In addition, the winning poet will also have their work read LIVE at Saturday’s ball by an attending cast member.
Jackson Rathbone’s band, 100 Monkeys, will soon be tweeting about their ‘design your own t-shirt’ contest. The winning shirt will actually get printed as a limited edition item and sold on their website. All of the money from the sale of the winning t-shirt will be donated to the Spencer Bell Legacy project. Which brings up a good point. A portion of ALL of proceeds from the NewCon Festival will be donated to the Spencer Bell Legacy Project.

View more info at the NewCon website HERE! One of the main driving forces behind this convention is Jackson’s band the 100 Monkeys.

MTV: Comic Con 2009 Preview

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

MTV has a preview of Comic-Con 2009, where they mention the New Moon panel.

“New Moon” (Thursday at 1:45 p.m., Hall H) — As anyone who owns the DVD has seen in the bonus features, “Twilight” mania erupted last year at Comic-Con, as the seemingly little-known film inspired die-hards to line up in record numbers. Now, San Diego is ready for “New Moon” mania, and our own Hollywood Crush will even be embedding a reporter to camp out with the Twilighters, providing up-to-the-minute experiences while waiting in line. As your home for all things “Twilight,” you can trust MTV to be all over this panel like Jasper Hale on Bella’s bloody finger. The cast of “Astro Boy” and “Sorority Row” will also be participating in the panel, answering such probing questions as “When will Robert Pattinson walk onstage?”
