Kristen Stewart Remembers Her First ‘Twilight’ Interview

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

“That was the first time you asked me about ‘Twilight’!” Kristen smiled when we caught up last week at the “Handkerchief” junket. “I remember the interview! … You were like ‘So, what’s up with this [movie]?’ ”

Actually, she brought up the film. “The movie is called ‘Twilight,’ ” she said during that January 2008 encounter. “Catherine Hardwicke is directing it in Washington. It’s based on a book that’s pretty popular [among] young adult, high school kids.

“The main character is, like, superhuman,” she said of Edward Cullen. “He’s a vampire, but with really [heightened powers]. He can run faster than a car can drive, and he’s super strong.”

At that point, Stewart added that she would be co-starring with some British actor named Robert Pattinson.

“Was Rob cast? I guess I don’t remember,” she explained. “That’s so weird.”

The result was the first time Kristen had ever spoken in public about the “Twilight” films, and when we ran a Movies Blog item a bit later, the MTV News team was shocked by the post’s record-setting traffic. That, in turn, gave birth to “Twilight” Tuesdays, the cast’s appearances at the MTV Movie Awards, the media picking up on the phenomenon later that year and — well, you know the rest of the story.

Of course, at the time, KStew also got herself in a bit of hot water, saying, “He throws me over his back [in one scene], right before he’s going to tell me that he’s a vampire, and then he runs over the treetops. And we’re going to be in real treetops; we’re not just going to CGI it. We actually get to go up there, and that’s what I’m stoked on.”

Oh…how things have changed!

Twilight Documentary Releasing October 15

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

MTV has a new article about the release of a documentary that will be about the Twilight phenomenon and it’s impact on Forks. It’s a DVD in HD that hits stores on October 15th.

If you’re like most Twilighters, you have a wall calendar with the November 20 release date of “New Moon” marked by a giant X, a star or two, and four or five red circles around it. But if you can’t wait that long, now you have a new date to mark down — and a new “Twilight”-related movie to look forward to.

“The full title is ‘Twilight in Forks: The Saga of the Real Town,’ ” explained producer York Baur, revealing details exclusively to MTV about the soon-to-be-released flick, whose existence has remained a secret — until now. “It’s a documentary about the town and the impact of the ‘Twilight’ phenomenon on the town. It’s a DVD that is shot in full HD, and it’s going to be available to the public on October 15.”

From now until that date, Baur and director Jason Brown will be unveiling exclusive sneak peeks of the film on MTV.com every Tuesday — continuing to lift the veil on the first-ever “Twilight” documentary.

“Everybody that’s a fan of ‘Twilight’ has a vision of what Forks is like,” Brown said of the real-life Washington town where Stephenie Meyer set her vampire-romance saga. “In the movie, we get a peek at that. But in fact, they didn’t shoot the ['Twilight'] movie in Forks. So we’ve gone actually out to Forks. And you’ll get a chance to meet some of the real people and see some of the real places that are featured in the story.”

EDIT: Check out the poster for the documentary!

Jackson and Ben Barnes Were Almost Edward

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

The Lex has shared some interesting news with us from the Pheonix TwiTour that is going on right now! Apparently Jackson Rathbone was one of the contenders for the role of Edward, along with Ben Barnes and Shiloh Fernandez!

So TwiTour Day one…wow…just wow. Cool new stuff we learned:

1. Mike Welch can play the drums and do comedy song routines from Dreamgirls to Queen. He’s also an incredible backup dancer.

2. Catherine Hardwicke said that the 4 finalists (who she called bachelor 1, 2, 3, 4) for the part of Edward Cullen were Jackson Rathbone, Ben Barnes, and Shiloh Fernandez. She said to watch for Shiloh because she predicts that he’s going places.

3. Catherine said two Twilight stars (one male and one female) have auditioned for her version of Hamlet.

4. Edi Gathegi was chased around the New Moon set by styrofoam green cows that were then replaced by CGI wolves when doing the wolf attack scene. He said it’s hard to keep a straight face when you’re being chased by green cows.

5. Edi just saw New Moon in a private movie theater with Stephenie Meyer and said he was nervous seeing the movie with Stephenie and he’s always nervous about seeing himself on film. Said the movie is fabulous, and amazing.

6. Gil Birmingham on acoustic guitar at 12:30AM is so worth staying up for. His repertoire runs from blues, to light rock, to a Mexican sound that then blends into folk. And, oh yeah, the man can sing!

Okay I’ve never heard of Shiloh Fernandez but he’s pretty cute xD
Still, I’d pick Rob any day. =]

Harry Potter Director Checked Out Twilight Script

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

MTV’s Hollywood Crush has an article about how Chris Columbus, the director of the first two Harry Potter films, once took a look at the script for Twilight. It makes us wonder what Twilight would have been like if Columbus directed it!

Looking at the “Twilight” that could have been, MTV News has learned that two-time “Harry Potter” director Chris Columbus took a glance at the script at the beginning of the adaptation process.

“I guess I did read a script early on,” says the director, who most recently helmed “I Love You, Beth Cooper.”“But I was doing something else.”

Columbus, who directed both “Sorcerer’s Stone” and “Chamber of Secrets” is no stranger to fantasy book series, planning his next film as an adaptation of the first “Percy Jackson” novel, “The Lightning Thief,” which has already begun casting.

In the meantime, he’s not looking at “Twilight” as a missed opportunity or regretting leaving the “Potter” franchise, though he admits that it’s a strange feeling to see the new films come out with different directors.
